I'll try to make this a short as possible. Long trip towing my TJ on an 18 foot flatbed, 32 hours one way to get there........ the Glad did an as expected job even up the grades encountered going through Vegas up to Lake Tahoe and the Rubicon trail. I watched all temps closely and never experienced deration. We had a good few days on the Rubicon trail (in my TJ only as the glad sat in the parking lot), it was a bucket list trip for me 12 years past due!! Anyway, the trip back home was a little different. After being on the road for about 8 hours we came to a traffic slowdown in Vegas on the interstate for about 30 minutes in 112 degree temps. Upon traffic clearing and speeding back up (gradually I might add) ... it felt like the trailer was hitting bumps and not the glad. This was just a few bumps lasting no more that a few seconds. I then babied the thing just in case. After some time the "bumps" did not return until a few hours later when cresting one of the many many grades. After that, I started manual shifting and learning how to minimize this. Now a few hours later she lights up and goes into limp mode keeping me at 55 mph, so we stopped for the night. A buddy had a scan tool and pulled codes P0513 and P0336. P0513 is incorrect immobiiizer key and P0513 is crankshaft position sensor.
In the morning I disconnected the negative terminal and unplugged the PCM to see if I could clear the limp mode. It appeared to work for a little while, but later on went into limp mode again, then went into a further 45 mph limp mode. Pulled off at an exit that happened to have a very small dealer. Had to wait until Monday morning, so all buddies left me and continued home while I got a room. Next morning the dealer cleared the codes and couldn't do anything more without opening a case and keeping the glad for 1 week minimum. They told me it kept dying on them when they put it into reverse, it never did that on me after I took it back from them. I asked if I could drive it and they said sure, but no guarantee it will make it.
Well, I drove it the rest of the way home about 17 hours over the next two days. It never went into limp mode again, but had no more grunt in it.... barely making it up grades - this condition seemed to correct itself at times and at other times return. It nearly left me at a gas station when it would not start back up, it kept making different noises when trying to start (a bump, an attempt to start sound, a more than a bump) as well getting "stuck" trying to crank which I had to hit the start button a few times to stop. Called for a tow and when trying to put the transmission into neutral so I could get the transfer case into neutral it started right up like nothing was wrong. I let the tow truck guy go and I made the remaining 9 hour drive home never going into limp mode or feeling the transmission/driveline kick thing again. Heading to my dealer next week. Sorry for the ramble I was trying to keep it as short as I could, there a lots of details I skipped over.

Following up for anyone interested:
Just heard from dealer.. they found a melted wire loom (guess it’s time for an EGT gauge) next to the exhaust way up in the harness. One wire in it was chafed from rubbing on the exhaust. They used a flat 2 ft long light with a mirror to find it.
They repaired the harness and secured it out of the way so it won’t happen again. They said no more codes and it now starts and drives perfectly. I’ll have to pick it up tomorrow as I’m out of town working. I guess this is good news for me, I wonder if they should put out a TSB for this??

That is exactly what they found on my Ram eco after it burned up. Wish I had found it early.

Was it the harness somewhat near the passenger front fender, and was it resting on the downpipe? There was a post on a FB group a few weeks ago about this being common and to check. I did on my 22 JTRD, and yep - the harness was touching the downpipe flange. I pulled it back a bit and zip tied it so there was an air gap. Seems like this is a big issue that should be corrected (and easily) at the factory.

Really wish I would’ve seen this before my trip! It would have save me A LOT of headache! I will confirm once I pick up the gladiator tomorrow with pics if I can get them.

I’ll have to check mine as well.

Thankfully nothing caught on fire. I think at some point this corrected this, but depending on build date it’s worth a check for most of us diesel owners.

FWIW - mine was barely touching the flange, and it had a build date of May 2022. Hopefully that wasn't considered "Corrected"! ?
