Jk gear and gadgets just did a video on these

Watched that the other night too, Ben made them seem pretty intriguing. Was thinking bout getting rpm steering’s ball joints when I purchase my rcv’s. But this might have me second guessing. Said he liked the steering in a good way

I’m definitely interested too. I’m at 53k and I have slight play on my ball joints. I was planning on changing my ball joints out when I regear here soon.

I've looked at these ball joint deletes. Was wondering how long the bearings would last. From what I was able to find out. The one guy said about every 3 years.

Also been looking at the double loaded ball joints like Rare Parts.
From their site: " Expected lifespan of spherical bearings is estimated at 2 years depending on tire size, use, etc. "

Rebuild kit is $199

Are these nylon/teflon lined spherical bearings or metal on metal?

If teflon then they will wear pretty quickly and develop play.

If they are metal/metal you would think they need grease.

Agreed!

On the Taco's I've done in the shop, I got the dust cover that seals the top of the uniball so that water and mud didn't just fall into the pocket and grind it up. I would also put a couple of drops 250W gear oil on top before installing the caps.....Not sure if that bought them any more time or not? We just swapped them out when they started talking to us.......

Icon now has the Delta Joints (Exteneded travel Ball Joint)so they get retrofitted now.

From the website.

The JT/JL are plagued by major problem- both joints are pressed in from the bottom and with a shaft failure the lower balljoint gets punched out and the upper follows suit. The JT/JL Balljoint Delete System upper presses in from the top, the lower from the bottom. If a shaft failure occurs and the lower assembly is contacted, the upper joint features a ledge keeping the outer knuckle from falling off completely. Key features include:

  • 3/4” PFTE Teflon coated bearings for long bearing life and smooth operation (F1 fit bearings throughout)
  • 4340 hardened chromoly hardware. Lower hardware features a buttonhead with hex pocket in order to clear the larger RCV bells.
  • Buna O-ring seals top of assemblies to keep debris out
  • Fits stock knuckles and Reid knuckles using the stock upper camber bushing.

So theres a bonded ptfe coating on the inner spherical bearing with no lubrication :\

Not sure thats optimal for a load bearing surface. I would prefer greasable?

Per SKF for the same type of bearings:

" However, initial lubrication followed by occasional relubrication of steel/PTFE FRP bearings can extend the service life of the bearing by a factor of two or more. The inner rings of radial bearings or shaft washers of angular contact and thrust bearings are coated with a lithium base grease before leaving the factory. "

If something like this came along for the JT (maybe it has by someone else), would you do it? Thoughts on the claims (in other groups) where these are much stronger than ball joints? I figure if they're so good why dont the big players like Spicer, Synergy, etc offer them?
