I literally just clicked the submit button on my Jeep Quality Survey from Stellantis for my 2022 Gladiator Rubicon diesel.

Overall, I gave the vehicle high marks with a few exceptions.

These are the things I complained about:

1. The steering still has too much free play in these things. It’s work keeping this pickup in your lane. You gotta remain hypervigilent at all times, especially at highter speeds.. It’s not like a Ram 3500 or a hemi Challenger, that you just point in a direction and it goes there until you make a change. These things wander in the lane. Got burned on the 2020 Mojave with the bum steering gear at purchase. This isn’t a huge improvement since then.

2. Have I told you recently how much I hate the freaking Start/Stop button? Let’s be honest I am/we are subsidizing the Cafe standards for the Challengers and Chargers by having this thing tormenting me/us. And it’s in an awful location. 50% of the time, I forget to press it to off before taking departing. And DO NOT try to dart out into traffic if the vehicle is cut off at an intersection. It’s slow to re-engage and get moving again. I refuse to believe this thing going off and on all day long is good for longevity of the engine or starter.

3. I think the turn signal arm is cheap and flimsly. And it’s hard to engage. This cheap hollow plastic thing is an insult to the character of something like a Rubicon. I want something rugged, metal, and thugish.

4. Hopefully it just needs an update, but the NAV system is really inaccurate. it’s constantly telling me I can do 65 MPH in much slower zones, etc.

5. The effing windshield design sucks. Less than 2k miles and I was in the Cracked Windshield Club. A month later, fingers crossed, I might get it replaced later this week at Safelite. That’s been a real pain in the arse.

Vehicle suggestions:

I don’t know why Jeep is putting carpet in an off-road vehicle like a Rubicon? Geez, put some vinyl or rubber flooring in these things. Plus it would be more dog hair friendly. And would probably help with the road noise.

Redesign the windshield to better avoid glass breakage, or switch to something literally bullet proof like Tesla bragged about with the Cyber truck.

Those were my gripes and complaints. Overall, Stellantis has done really well with my vehicle quality wise. The only defect I’ve noticed is a circular indention on the tailgate, looks like a visible stamp mark. But it’s really hard to see unless the light catches it just right.

Did you test drive before making the purchase? Were you hoping the second e would be different?

I forgot to add an important one in my post that I dinged Stellantis for on the survey, The Dodge Garage and the Uconnect app.

My Uconnect app via Dodge Garage says I own three vehicles: A 2022 Gladiator Rubicon, A 2020 Gladiator Mojave, and a 2022 Dodge Challenger Scatpack Widebody. The problem is, I traded the Challenger in on this rubicon in July, and I got rid of the Mojave almost two years ago. But I can still remote control and track those vehicles via my Uconnect app.

Brian, the Krebs Security column guy wrote an article about this problem with another manufacturer. He sent it to me after I engaged him about what’s going on with my former vehicles.

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2020/02/when-your-used-car-is-a-little-too-mobile/

I need to call Stellantis, again. We’ve had this talk a couple of times now about removing these old vehicles. I’ve tried several times via the Dodge Garage website to remove these vehicles, but they persist in my account.

I’m a fan of repeat engaging in that “definition of insanity experiment,” hoping for a different outcome But in all seriousness, I did expect a better steering experience two years and a lot of customer griping later.

And the steering is slightly improved, but I credit that to what reviews have said. The added weight of the diesel engine is helping to tame the wandering beast.

Wow ...

Well, at least now you can sleep the sleep of angels knowing that your complaints are being parsed by a text bot and then stored in a database located somewhere in the Amazon cloud until it is deleted ...

Feels great to get it out though ...

Turn signal and wiper stalks felt better on my JK. These feel like a step backwards.

I need to call Stellantis, again. We’ve had this talk a couple of times now about removing these old vehicles. I’ve tried several times via the Dodge Garage website to remove these vehicles, but they persist in my account.

I made some phone calls, and the last entity I got bounced to was Sirius Guardian. The rep was nice, but had the gall to blame me for not cancelling the Sirius subscriptions, which is what is giving me access to the two vehicles.

As noted in the Krebs article, the dealerships I traded the vehicles in at had a responsiblity to clear the data, but there’s a common thread with both vehicles. I traded both while the Sirius subscriptions were still active under the initial trial. So the dealer probably thought “It’ll be more attractive to the next customer with the radio still on.” And didn’t cancel them. Or, they were just lazy.

So the end result is the 2022 Challenger has been successfully removed from my account. However, Sirius and the upper echelon tech gurus can’t explain why the 2020 Mojave is still showing up in my Uconnect app.

At first, they start blaming the Apple version, but my spouse has Android, and the 2020 still shows up for her too.

Siruis Guardian created a trouble ticket and ”they’re researching it.”

The Sirius guy was telling me how there’s a huge theft problem with all these vehicles. And I was like: “yeah, former owners having total control over the vehicle, ability to unluck doors, remote start, etc., probably isn’t helping the situation.”

Not saying that as in the former owners are crooks, but it paints the picture of a wider security issue with these remote control apps.

You’re not wrong about the nav system. I had to use my iphone to check routes on a recent trip and was surprised to see that the nav system in the Jeep warned that I may experience unpaved roads when I was plotting a coarse between populated areas in Oklahoma to Nebraska. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the occasional ‘romp‘ off the paved road, but not when I’m trying I’m approaching dusk on a Sunday and have to be back at work the next day and have 300+ miles to go!

Also, I had a call from Jeep cares survey and I really took them to task on the fact that I was disappointed to receive an ordered Jeep with scratches and gouges in the frame from assembly. Grant it, it’s a Jeep and the frame may get scratches and gouges in an adventure, but I thought I was ordering a new vehicle and it would be my prerogative to do that. I also took the time to mention that I’m almost surprised that Jeep doesn’t attempt to make a better product with galvanized frames vs the cheaply flaked paint that I see over their welds.

That touches on something that I selected in the survey data questions: It asked what other vehicles had I considered?

The answer is a Ford Super Duty, because of their aluminum bodies and superior corrosion resistance.
.
Honestly, if we were still in 2019 times and I could go on any manufacturer’s dealer lots and take my pick like past days, I most likely would have bought a Super Duty 4X4 Ford pickup with the diesel. Or, if the TRX wasn’t jacked up to $145k from the $79k MSRP, I may have gotten one of those instead too. Much better resale value, I suspect.

The only downside for my lifestyle with the bigger vehicles is they’re less nimble in traffic and more difficult to park. And certainly lower fuel MPG in the case of the TRX. But highway stability and better towing capacity are certainly a big plus on those choices.

I’ve always hated the turn signal lever myself. My 2011 Honda Odyssey has such a nice sturdy and buttery turn signal lever compared to this. Small but just something that I noticed right away

Wouldn’t it be cool if the turn signal level was a mini version of the gear shifter? Metal shaft, leather wrapped end, etc.
