I, one time, got twelve 8 foot long 2x4”s in a Subaru Justy. Doors and windows closed.
That was also not a 1/2 ton truck.
I used to work for a mobile home company. We made many “questionable” hauling choices. Our foreman drove an old Chrysler full sized station wagon for quite some time. OSHA would not have approved.

If you want to see stupid on loading. Go to Home Depot or Lowes. I've seen people remove the seats to get something in their little suv's.

I remember that one time I rolled into Home Depot on my motorcycle.

There were quite a few people standing around when I got off it. I only needed a box of decking screws but, I pulled a piece of paper out of my pocket and started 'reading' aloud, "Ok...two 4'x8' sheets of plywood, ten 2"x4"s, two 8' pieces of 1 1/2" PVC..."

I stopped there and looked around me. A couple of people were slack jawed ? but, most others were laughing

Guilty, broke my rear window loading a grill in the lowes parking lot last summer. Due to covid supply issues, it took like 6 weeks to get new glass. Fortunately we can take the roof off our trucks so had a good excuse to run topless for a while.

A group of us saw a Ridgeline out at Rausch Creek once. We all kind of laughed, but it was out there, and not stuck when we saw it.
Gotta give credit when people use their vehicles for things other than errands.

I used to work for Lowe's for about 7 years. I saw many, many, questionable loads over those years. Just a couple that stand out thinking back;
  • The pallet of Quickrete in a 90's Ford Ranger was the most memorable. Yup that actually happened, we started a pool on how far he would get before the axle snapped.
  • A new dishwasher in the box, in the back of a C6 Vette coupe. Also true, hatch open and lots of bungy cords.
  • A Honda Del Sol picked up 12 bags of Quickrete, that doesn't sound like much but he stuffed 8 bags in the passenger seat and floor board, while the other 4 where stacked on the trunk between the spoiler and the rear window. I'm not sure why this one sticks out as my favorite.
What I learned from that time is anything can be a truck or simply have higher payload capacity if you dream hard enough and don't worry about consequences.

I once fit an entire disassembled Yakima 78” rack and roll trailer inside my former Chevy volt. The parts were still in the boxes. No doors were open. It all fit. It wasn’t super fun to drive though.

In a warehouse job I once loaded a pallet of Oil-Dri in a 90's F-150. The rear tires were squashing so much the wheels were nearly touching the ground.

Back in the mid '80s, I had a problem that left my Power Wagon in the shop for almost a month. Wiring harness probably, but whatever, it still took a while to get fixed. I needed to be able to haul 6' and 8' scaffolds, but didn't want to spend a lot of money to rent a truck. I bought a '72 Mercury Grand Marquis and removed the back seat and cut the braces behind the back seat out. Problem solved, it easily accommodated my scaffolds and tools, and was at least as comfortable as my living room couch. Gas mileage wasn't anything to write home about, but my Power Wagon had a 440 V8 and was thirsty as well. That $200 Mercury was a good, cheap stop gap solution to my need for a truck. Best part was that when I got my Power Wagon back from the shop, I sold the Mercury for $200 to a guy who wanted the 429 V8 out of it. So anything can be a truck with a little imagination (and a Sawzall).

About a year after I retired. I started to work for Home Depot part time. Had a Subi suv come in and pick up 3 kitchen cabinets. The guy took out the rear seat and left it in the cart return stall. Took him 3 trips to get all of his cabinets that day. He came back 2 days later to get his rear seat. He managed to fit each cabinet in, barely.

Seen a few blow tires out at the end of the parking lot. What I hated was when they would return the item about an hour later all broken up. You just knew it fell and hit the road after they loaded up and left. Should have seen the freezer that was returned. LOL

Probably still living with the concrete power in every nook and cranny as well! How fitting for a Del Sol.

The Power Wagon has a lower rating because of the springs. The springs are taller and have a softer rate. Power Wagon will sit about 2" higher than a regular 2500. Plus the shocks are valved different.
Oh ok so a ram 1500 is a 1/2 ton but not a power wagon

if Jeep called it a half-ton then it would be expected to be in the same class as the F150 or 1500 series trucks. Which it clearly is not.

If would be in the class of a Ford 50 or a Chevy/Ram 500 using that nomenclature.
