I installed the Tazer mini on my JTR the other day, and only changed tire size and minimum tire pressure under the TPMS function. I didn't change any of the "live" actions. Now the ESS is off whenever I start the truck. I did leave the Tazer attached, although for what I did it isn't necessary. Perhaps this is a function in the new update, which I installed when I received it last week. I can push the button to activate it, but I'm happy with it off.

Anyone experience the same thing? My wife says it's because I was constantly swearing at it whenever I forgot to turn it off when I got in the truck.

EDIT: I took my JTR into the dealer for the first free oil change, and they found that a wire was partially cut to the switch at the hood. They thought it was a rodent chewing the wire, but there was no other damage. Nevertheless, it is like disconnecting it to eliminate the ESS, so the light comes on. The ESS now functions.

EDIT: The wire to that switch under the hood was chewed apart by a rodent. All fine now.

I haven't had that issue with mine. What is your reasoning for having it off vs. on?

The way the Tazer Mini is supposed to work is that it remembers the last position of (I believe any) switch when you shut the vehicle off and then returns to that same position when you start the vehicle.

That's how it works on mine at least. My ESS is always selected off. I know one time I left my Aux 4 switch on (Rock Lights) and when I restarted the vehicle they came on.

Test it by "unselecting" the switch, i.e. switch not lit; then turn off/on the vehicle...should stay off on restart.

One of the 'features' of the Tazer is it remembers your last setting for ESS on or off and returns it to that state at startup. Many buy the Tazer just for that option.

Just drives me nuts. My brother has a Subaru and loves it. I guess I didn't get that gene.

Thanks for that. I'm happy with it off, but I know many like it and probably get better mileage.

If I remember that I have it by then, I plan to turn on ESS when it gets cooler. I don't love the hot/stale air that comes out of the A/C at the stop light when it is 90+ in Sacramento

Exactly. I'm in Phoenix and when the engine goes off at a stoplight, it gets real hot real quick...LOL

Surprised it actually shuts off if the temperature is that hot. I'm just in Pa, and when it's hot and my ac is on, it doesn't. It says unavailable, cabin cooling.

It depends on the day/time of day. Obviously when the temp is 100F+, it doesn't kick off. But on cooler days or in the mornings the real killer, as my Profile Location says, we are 10 miles from the sun. If you hit a stoplight and you are facing the sun or it's coming in the driver side window (not worried about the passenger), the sun being magnified by the glass will heat the interior up quickly. It can literally be as quick and intense as waving your hand under a heat lamp.

I could be mistaken, when I first got a Tazer Mini I remember have a setting on my instrument cluster that toggles on/off the ESS. After a hand full of software updates that toggle switch is no longer there. As it is now it just remembers last state.

Not quite as hot in Albuquerque, but hot enough.

It will return ESS to the state it was at when you turned the truck off. This sounds like it's working exactly as intended. What's the issue?
No issue. I like it that way. Just wanted to see if it was a normal setting, which it is.
