Hi All - This is the first jeep I have ever owned so not sure if this is normal. My jeep walks left or right when I hit a bump in the road. I feel like I have to white knuckle drive at higher highway speeds. This only becomes very noticeable at higher speeds, 70+. I have a 2020 Sport S Max Tow running 285/70R17. Is this normal? Anything I can do to lessen this? Thanks All!

Any mods to your suspension at all? Mine is a Sport-S but I've never noticed what you're describing.

If there is no lift, look at the steering gear... is it silver or black? Silver (aluminum) is what most/all the 2020's came with, and quite a few had issues with wandering. There is a TSB that details the replacement for the black (iron/steel) steering gear that resolved the wandering.

My truck came from the factory with the toe off. Learned that after getting a lift and alignment. Might have the toe checked...which, since stock, is the only adjustment for your alignment.

Also...as mentioned, the 2020's had some steering gear box issues that there's a recall on.

Thanks for the info!! I have the aluminum, just called two dealers both pushed me out 6 weeks just to look at it.
Search in the TSB/Recall section of the forum, you'll be able to find the TSB as a PDF to take in with you to the appointment.

You will be very happy with the truck when the work is done. It still won't handle like a car, but will handle like a truck should.

Check your tire pressure too.

+1 to this. Every time I take mine to the dealership, they put the tires up to 40+ and it's like riding on hippity-hops.

One of the reasons I got the Mojave was because the Sport, Willy's, and Rubicon's I all drove, the back end stepped out when I hit a bump on a certain on-ramp while turning.

I think we are describing the same thing. You are driving and when you hit a bump the back end moves laterally a bit.

If that's the case, you may want to try lowering the air pressure in the tires a bit. The problem is that the sports and especially the Max Tow seem to be over-sprung and under-damped in back.

I’ve been curious whether they will cover it outside of the 3/36 warranty. They don’t has to since it’s a TSB, but I think it’s on a case by case basis.

For now, I’d check the alignment and lower the tire pressure to 33-34 psi. Both helped my 2020 a lot before I got the aluminum box.

Depending on the severity that you are describing it is somewhat normal. If you are comparing a solid axle to IFS you will notice that when hitting certain bumps or G outs that the actions is transferred across the axle whereas IFS, being independent isn't as effected. If you are stock I really doubt your feeling bump steer.

Mine does that if the tire pressure is high (36+). 33 psi seems to work well.
