Many forums lock threads that have not had new posts in 2 years or more. There's a Jeep forum or two that do that among others. It's not uncommon. I'm not sure why since from a search and database perspective using an existing thread is more efficient (we pay dearly for all the SQL space used at the AMC forum (I am the one that pays the bills there - we encourage people to not start new threads and the mods there (mods the co-owner and I chose) sometimes clip posts to the old thread and remove the new one.))
So as a forum admin and mod there, I scratch my head sometimes and have to just shrug.

I think it is a clicks and engagement thing for ad revenue that new threads being created and bumped for a short time is more profitable than bumping a necro thread that has gone stale.

Since you are modifying the factory electrical system, deleting the AUX battery will result in warranty issues for the electrical system.

Pretty simply actually ... jumper the AUX positive to the main positive and isolate the ground. No permanent modification to the system and can be reverted back to stock if needed. I've been running this way for months without issue.

I moderate on a gun related forum that was at first no ads and privately owned. Then it got bought out and went corporate for the ad space. Changed totally what I was allowed to do in terms of locking and moderating because the activity was more important than the content from the new corporate admins. For the most part, I stay out of the way and let the monkeys run the zoo there.

We've had offers to buy - and the person doing the offering could not only afford it, but they could have taken it to 10 times what it is/was, but Ian and I also knew the side-effects of all of that as well.
Several years ago, we had a big purging of a list of those known to cause trouble, and decided that since one of the moderators at the time had been talking to one of the ones on that list as a possible buyer and giving information and so on, we one night did a quick lockdown, purged the trouble, booted two mods and moved other mods into place and opened things back up. Since then, it's been a lot smoother and there's even some members who help keep trouble down so it's not been as much problem since people see we are dead serious about things and will grab control and turn things up-side-down to dump out trouble and clean up.
It's not nearly as fancy as this forum, not near the features (especially with photos and such) but it works for a small group. Face it, the owners and fan-base of AMC cars isn't exactly growing LOL. Some of those who race their cars are over 80.

Hard nowadays to find specific content forums still privately owned and run by enthusiasts of said content is rare. 10-15 years ago, the lions share were privately held. Now, the majority have been scooped up being bought out by companies like Vertical Scope that offer some decent money and they sell them. Vertical Scope is like the "Borg" of internet forums.

Yeah, but I wonder how objective those independent researches actually were. Not in the sense of their research process, but rather the geographical regions.

What I mean is, to say it saves 7-10% if their research only included vehicles in major metropolitan areas would be a huge difference if they said the average 7-10% savings was equal across the nation.

I say this because for me personally, I can easily drive 2 or 3 hours on the highway just to get to a grocery store, or a major town.... And then while in said town, there may only be a dozen or so times I stop at a red light or stoplight.

So it would be nice to know the full context of how this fuel savings is researched and calculated. I think that would be an important part of the study findings.

There's absolutely NO way it would save 7-10% of fuel costs for us. Seems logical to say that it will save +/- the % of your time spent at idle. Big city with gridlock maybe.

Suburbs where I am, it's almost all stop signs. Rural areas probably even more so that way. Any turning off would be so momentary it would amount to such a miniscule savings it isn't worth it. If I'm in a true traffic jam from an accident or road work I'll just turn the truck off.

I have to say, I am not a fan of it. Not that there is anything wrong with it and if you are pro ASS, more power to you. I actually forgot to hit the button and it took advantage of me. The brief hesitation is what made me realize I had not hit the button. The auto start stop can't possibly save any gas the way that it functions. Plus, the need for the stupidly designed aux battery, that creates additional problems when it dies, is just a bad design. Is there any warranty issue with deleting the aux battery?
