So it looks like I'm need to go from 5.13 to 4.88 to get some meat on the pinion. With the Supercharger power and 5.13 dont mix well. Anyone have any experience with higher horsepower and issues with 5.13? I notice most say do not floor it 0-60, which is what I did and caused my pinion to lose all its teeth. Since I have stock lockers, I'm probably switch to ARB lockers with 4.88 gears now.

What do you guys think of 4.88 when it comes to higher torque?

I have RCV axles for front and Chromoly rear axles with 40s

What tire size?
I’m looking at Magnusson in future with my 5.13s on 40s and stock axles but was warned the stock housings can’t have big enough gears for the strength of the supercharger’s power. I’m going to wait and see.

Why waste any more money on the M220?

You are WAY beyond the rotational design limits and would be better served by a Dana 60 or 70 even if it's still a semi floater. This will just keep happening if you choose to use the you have torque on tap.

I have a Dana 70U on the shelf that I was thinking about putting together with the set80 bearing ends ends and off the shelf 35 spline axles. Substantial upgrade without the weight/cost penalty of a full 8 lug conversion since I'm already somewhat invested in what I have.

40x12.5x17 tires with Magnuson Supercharger but I do have RCV axles and Chromoly rears

That is what I was thinking I notice that most 70U are fords. Do you have a recommendation or link for a 70U

What horsepower and torque realm are we in here?

You could jump to a D60 but a D44 properly setup is no slouch with strong internals. Rotational resistance isn’t your friend and you quickly find weak links.

Most I have built are in 2nd gen Dodge trucks and that's what mine is. Wouldn't mind finding a local M220 housing with strait tubes....just found one 200 miles south of me for $200.

Not sure how much strength would be gained from a 4.88 vs 5.13......both 8 pinion teeth.

Assuming you don't build axles if you are a newb? Look at Currie and Fusion. I wouldn't waste my time on a D60 if I were starting from scratch....you have V8 HP/TQ?

Would something like this work? I have a place to get it installed.I'll just buy all the parts and bring it to them

You will be into that more by the time its done than just buying off the shelf by the time its done unless you can build it all yourself.

What brand gears were you running??? 5.13’s on the street should have been Fine!!
I have only ran Motive Gear…. Never had a pinion head give out….. definitely stood up to dropping the clutch on 37’s and burnouts in my jk…. ?? ???
