Damn I would have really pissed in your Wheaties if I took a picture of gas prices I seen heading up to KY.

One thing that I don't understand is why some think it's a good idea to run fuel tank empty, I got passed that S### after being a broke teenager with 4 barrel carb vehicles. I figured out it sucks being on side of road pouring in gas or not having gas.
It's about 2.96 or so here today.

I used to have to drive until I could gather enough money to put gas in the car......... sometimes the money can as I got under 1/4 tank, sometimes it didn't quite and I was really pushing it (one time, literally)
I fill between 1/4 and 1/8 depending on where I am, what my plans are for and so on. If traveling, it never goes below 1/4.

With my 73 that last 1/4 tank goes fast with 2 quads pulling it through.

My 82 you don't want to go below 1/4 because the 4.0 with electric pump hiccups if you go up a hill or go around a corner quickly and the gas all sloshes away from the in-tank pump and pickup screen. I didn't want to modify the tank to put baffles in it so with the conversion to the 4.0, I had to make sure it always had enough gas to cover the bottom of the in-tank pump I put in it.

My wife drives her GC until she's got less than 100 miles left on the tank because the local grocery store gives you fuel discounts for certain grocery items. It's good for up to 20 gallons and when you have a .30 to $1.00 off per gallon, it's like giving them money back if you can't get all 20 gallons in.

I seen $2.82 a gal and possibly a few cents slightly lower. But I would have only been toping up a few gallon then.

Somebody should try caring 5 gallons or 10 gallons of gas in their bed and then run out the gladiator just to see how far we can actually go past the low fuel light
I agree. Since you brought it up…have you done it yet?

Ok, so I reset trip B as soon as the 30 mile to empty warning came on.

The truck finally died on a small uphill, so it could have potentially gone farther, but losing the ability to go uphill makes it a moot point.

Oh and once you get under 10 miles to empty, the display just reads "Low miles" . I dumped like 4 ish gallons (VP racing 3.5 gallon jug filled all the way up) and the miles to empty still read "Low miles".

My MPG average read was 16. something. I forgot to get that down.

SO dividing the 346.3 miles traveled by 16 give me 21.64 gallons.

I got better than 16 mpg though, Im very inclined to believe we have access to 22 gallons of fuel.

Also the reserve is 4 gallons of gas-ish. The computer screen estimated 30 miles to empty, I was able to go 68.1 . Use that information as you wish.

THis is on a 6spd manual JTR, with a tonneau, exhaust, and an intake. Only 1200 miles on the truck.

Someone please make the above post a sticky or something!

Just in general............

As I've said elsewhere, I have gotten 21+ gallons in mine - I was risking my wife giving me holy hell and living the rest of my natural life being reminded of it, but we were not that far from gas and we knew people in the area (her old home town) so I wasn't TOO worried.
When we left home it said we had 30 miles left. I knew the trip was 25 miles so unless I hot-rodded the thing, we'd likely be fine. It did simply say "low miles" for the last leg of the trip.

I agree with the above - the tank, when bone dry, no usable fuel in it at all, is likely 22 gallons. But rather than people go to a Gladiator forum or fakebook page and bitch and gripe and moan and groan about how their JT left them stranded because idiot engineers told them they has 22 gallon tank and the cluster read "30 miles" remaining and someone assume there was leeway in that number and hit 30 and she died............ they'd rather be bitched at for doing the right thing and giving you conservative numbers.

Imagine the crap in these threads if you saw you had 20 miles left and got a full 22 gallons in a 22 gallon tanks. Man, those designers/engineers would be raked over the coals! They left me stranded!
They know that if it says 30 miles remaining you WILL try to go 40 just knowing that they are lying idiots and fools and they know nothing (and you could do better)

I guess I’m missing something. On the Jeep website under specs it lists 22 gallons for the gas model. The diesel model is 19, due to the Space the DPF tank takes up under the rig.

All’s I know, is when I fill up and the pump clicks off, I can slowly get an additional 3 gallons in.

Jeep Gladiator 4 extra gallons......where is it? Look MOM I can read with my eyes closed!! 84DF3003-422A-49F9-945C-F5430BEAFC2E

Can't speak for the diesel, but if you do that too much with the gas version, you may end up at the dealership with a MIL on and needing the vapor canister replaced. More than one member over the last 3 years has been clever and kept clicking - only to find that gas going someplace other than the tank.
There's a reason they go off when they do and a reason they specify numbers like they do.

I know for a fact I have put over 21 gallons in by the time it filled the neck of the tank. If you are only filling to the point the gas pump shuts itself off then that is probably your issue if you are running the 3.6L. If you pump slowly after that to top off, you will squeeze another 2-4 gallons in depending on when it auto kicked off.

i always stop when the pump stops. You do not want the fuel getting into the charcoal canister. That's a pricey OOPS.
