I've heard a couple of those things, and for some reason, I don't think the debris magically disappears above 1/4 tank...
Maybe stays in suspension longer from the sloshing, but inevitably ends up in the filter.
Agreed. But back in my Dad's day, big ol' hunks of rusted gas tank was not uncommon to be in the bottom of tanks; I patched quite a few as a wee lad. The piece of inner tube held in with a screw only lasted so long... and yes, we did that before we pulled and repaired.

The pickup is still on the bottom and has a screen/ filter. Of course if my plastic tank is rusting I've got serious problems.

I'm a little confused here. Can someone explain why they never go below 1/4 tank before filling up? I've heard several reasons...
Most modern vehicles have the pump sitting in a plastic “tank” within the tank, almost like an internal wet well (if you’re familiar with pump station construction) so that the pump is always submerged in fuel. Yes, the fuel going thru it provides cooling, being submerged also does.

On older vehicles, that was always my reasoning. On newer ones I just like having 1/4 tank as a fail safe. With poor mileage that’s about 60 miles. 60 miles will cover most “I can’t stop for gas” emergencies.

That tells me you had 1.2 gallons that the fuel pump couldn’t suck up from the bottom of the tank.
Exactly. So don't claim you have a 22 gallon fuel tank if the pump won't pick up more than a gallon of gas. OR have it made clear in the owners manual that you only have 20.5 gallons of usable fuel.

But of course this is just "fuel" for a discussion on the forum. I love my truck and this forum.

I fill up around 1/4 tank because it gives me the flexibility to do it when/where I want.

Not many decisions inspire regret like "I'll fill up on the way to work tomorrow"
I'm the opposite, but I'm not an asshole who leaves late and drives like I need to push everyone out of the way in the morning. Nothing worse to me than having to stop on the way home for gas. I don't care if the gas light is on when I park it in front of the house, I'll get it in the morning. Of course working in construction it is early enough there's no line if I want to grab a coffee or snack inside.

I'm with ya on this one. When I was working, I always had the mindset of "if you ain't early, you're late.". I had to be on the job at least 45 minutes early. Start the day relaxed, not rushed. But when I was heading home, sure, I'd say "Let me fill up now." and I'd buzz past the station. EVERY time. Home was on my mind. But I always left early enough to make a gas stop, a coffee grab (yes, I drink gas station coffee, I'm not a Starbucker...).

I'd shake my head on the guys that arrive last minute and run around like a chicken missing it's head. I'd be sitting there, feet propped, sipping my Joe and toking on a vape. Fully relaxed.

The gas at the station by my work is as much as 30 cents a gallon cheaper so I fill up on my way home as much as possible.

That gas station isn't open before work? Anywhere along the commute I can get gas going either direction?

21 gallons is the most I've put in, I hit range low and went 10 more miles which in our area is almoar a gallon. If I put it in when the light first turns on I get about 18.5 gallons

We have run the 4xe out of gas 3 times, the gas runs out before the electronic gauge hits the actual empty line we found out lol.

I've thought about it before but logistically it would add about 10 minutes to my drive. It's on the opposite side of the street with barriers and nowhere close by to make a U-turn.
