I noticed on the Jeep phone app, where is lists under "other" is says "4 additional gallons of gas", while under "standard equipment" is lists "22 gallon fuel tank". So does that mean I have a 26 gallon tank ? I know, the easy thing to do is run it almost empty then fill it up. Therein lies the rub; I never run my tank below a quarter tank, never did on any of my vehicles.

So I figure I'd ask here. Did the search but apparently my search-fu skills are weak or I'm the first one to ponder this....

I believe it’s 18+4
Drive down below E and you’ll put in around 20 gallons.

If your truck has more than 100 miles on the odometer, then those four gallons are gone, consumed, burned. The "4 additional gallons of gas" was fuel added into your standard sized tank when it left the factory.

And apparently Jeep has cheaped out over the years. Looking at the build sheet for my TJ, they used to include 5 gallons.

If you never go below a quarter tank, you effectively have a ~16 gallon tank anyway.
Pretty much. If you hit the low fuel light you might get an 18 gallon tank, at least in my experience 🤣

In 5 years I have never put 18 gallons in and that was when the dash computer was saying range 15 miles. Gladiator needs a bigger tank.

Yeah, 22 Gallons my ass.

I actually did want to see how far I could get on the tank and wanted to hit the gas station 15 miles short of the expected run out. Yes I am an IDIOT!

As most of us know the warning goes down and down in miles available before just saying low on fuel. Unless traveling, I usually fill it when the warning first goes off around 60 miles. But filling it then? Getting to much less passing 18 gallons of new gas is normal. So the sensor is obviously screwed up because this happens almost every time and I always fill the tank on the slowest setting, then rock the truck back and forth to burp it before topping off. Don't bother telling me because I already know I'm not supposed to top off the tank---old habits die hard.

So the fucking thing died as I was getting off the highway even though mathematically I had another 30 miles [I used a 15 GPM [as I average 15.5] x the supposed 22 gallon tank---341 miles].

I ignored the stop sign and coasted the quarter mile to the gas station but couldn't get completely up into it. Thank God a bunch of guys ran over and pushed me the rest of the way up the hill and to a gas pump. 313 miles and only took 20.8 gallons....

Everytime I hit 1/4 tank it takes ~15 gallons to fill up, makes me think it's a 20 gallon tank

I'm a little confused here. Can someone explain why they never go below 1/4 tank before filling up? I've heard several reasons...

I may have to eyeball the pump better next time. I never looked at the gallons pumped, just the total cost, then spend a couple minutes pulling Fruit of the Loom's from my butt crack.... Them prices can make you suck up some drawers....

For me, it was training from my Dad.....he always said that any crap in the tank is on the bottom, slushing around. If the level gets too low, you'll suck up crap. You have to fill up anyways, so why wait ?

I turn 65 next week, been driving since I was 16, always did it that way....

Legit logic from Dad ? No idea. But his method never hurt me or my wallet.

They all say that the pump is cooled by the fuel and therefore needs submerged in it. In reality it's cooled by the fuel flowing through it so as long as you don't run out it's fine. I've commuted for most of my career and put well over 200k miles on several vehicles. I don't know if I've ever gotten gas in a commuter before the gas light was on. And yet I've replaced 0 fuel pumps. They'll also claim debris in the bottom of the tank... but that's where the pickup is so it doesn't matter if it's full, the pump is still sucking from the bottom.

I've heard a couple of those things, and for some reason, I don't think the debris magically disappears above 1/4 tank...
Maybe stays in suspension longer from the sloshing, but inevitably ends up in the filter.
