No pics in the article, but sounds like the Gladiator is in bad shape. On the plus side, apparently it sliced a telephone pole in half, and the thief was still able to get out and run.

If sounds like the owner did. Wonder if they left the fob in it too? I've never tried it, but I would think with all the other nanny crap that the transmission shouldn't come out of park if the fob isn't present.

Yes, it will. It will let you drive as long as you want, until you turn the engine off. Then you're stuck several miles from home with no key fob and a truck that won't start.
