Update: In case anyone stumbles across this thread and hopes to use it as a reference, I decided on no lift and BFG KO2s in 315/70R17. At 35psi, my overhead clearance is 6' 3 and 3/4" at my bed rack, about 6' 3" at the roofline.

I have a good problem: I am starting a new job later this month that comes with a hefty pay raise. The good news is that I'm finally going to be able to afford a lift and tires for my JTR (and I have my wife's blessing, with the extra cash in hand). The bad news is that I'm going to have to start paying to park in a garage every day. The one closest to work is 6 feet 5 inches overhead (thanks, fire sprinklers), but there are lots of taller garages that are farther away.

Here are the options I'm considering
  • No lift, BFG KO2s in 315/70R17
  • No lift, Falken ATs in 315/70R17
  • 2" spacer lift, BFG KO2s in 315/70R17
  • 2" spacer lift, BFG KO2s in 37x12.50R17
If anyone has one of these combos, can you measure the height from the ground to the top of the roof, so I know how much tire can fit in which garage?

Current stock setup, because people stop to read threads with pics:

Not sure how helpful this is for you, but here's my setup for reference.

Lift: 2.5 inch Ready lift (Spacer Kit) w/Mojave Springs
Tire: 37x12.5/R17 Yokohama Geolanders M/T G003 (Tire is measured at 36.8 inches at 50 psi)
Tire PSI: 32 psi
Truck Weight (for suspension squish) 5640 lbs. (This is with steel bumpers, full steel skids, $ winch)

Height as measured: Approximately 6' & 4" (76" inches)

Conclusion: It's gonna be snug with a 2" lift and the (slightly) smaller 37.

Mine just barely squeezes into my home garage, so much so that I still need to work outside when I need to get the jack under it.

That's a little too close for comfort, but it gives me hope for the 35s, with or without lift.

Can anyone with 35s and no lift (especially KO2s in 315/70R17) grab an overall height measurement for me? Much appreciated!

"No lift, Falken ATs in 315/70R17" add a 1.5 inch leveling kit, beautiful.

315/70-17 BFG A/T’s here. With stock height JTR, I’m at ~74” (cab height). My Alu-Cab puts it at ~76”.

I had the same consideration when I did my build, as I’ve got to drive to the shitty and park in shitty garages.

Good luck. My two cents…this is why I won’t lift it until having to worry about taking it to the shitty is no longer a concern.

I have a rubicon, factory lift, with 35” tires. My wife recently scratched the paint and left some grooves on my hardtop as she barely scraped the ceiling of a garage that advertises a 6’ clearance. I say barely as she and my nephew thought they had enough clearance until I showed them my roof when they got home. The problem is transitioning from the ramps to the flat section of the garage.

I have parked in that same garage numerous times, but I stay on the 1st floor and Ive never had a problem. You have to know your rig.

Why dont you measure your truck and add the measurements? Go to the particular tire website and get the actual measurements of the tire you want. To start, a 2" spacer lift is...2"! Add an inch for 35's and 2 inches for 37's. NOTE most tires are not true 35 or 37". So see what your tires spec out as and then add accordingly. If you have the Wildpeaks AT3 then true diameter is 32.8. That is a diameter difference of 1.6 inches with below tire resulting in a elevation of .8 inches or @ 13/16"

The “problem” is that per the signage…they clearly marked the garage height to discourage folks with trucks and SUV’s from entering.

First time truck owner and/or new to parking garages, I guess I could see this happening though.

This is a great example of normalization of deviance. It always worked before (despite signage), so it will surely always work out in the future.
