Talking about affordability on a Jeep Gladiator forum is funny, but I agree with everything you say.The EV “fad” will go away once people buy them and realize beside looking special and unique, it’s not practical for MOST, not all people.
Live in the city? Great, buy one
Have no family or kids? Great, buy one
Have a lot of disposable income? Great, buy one
But the last thing people can afford right now is 60k+ for an EV that can’t take them on a road trip out of their own state before having to charge. Everything else is going up in price? Great let me buy an EV??
Towing?? Good one
Using heat/AC? Subtract 30 miles off your range.
That’s not to say they won’t get better because they will, but their is only so much you can do with a battery without defining the laws of physics that will allow the average American to use it like they normally would an ICE.
you should put your hat in the ring to be Stallantis‘s next CEOWow, the guy just isn't keeping up with reality or technology.
With the comments he's making, my guess is he's laying groundwork for a fight against government rules, laws, regulations. He's garnering public support for a future fight is my guess.
New lithium deposits have been found in recent times, India, even the USA, have large deposits recently discovered.
But the better news is that new battery technology is being developed that will reduce the need for some of these materials. There's even a possibility that lithium would be replaced.
There's also talk about going to more PHEVs instead of jumping right into pure EVs.
This guy is doing two things - trying to build resistance to EVs, and, he's not up on new research.

" We know that we need lithium. We know that we are not producing as much as we need. We have right now 1.3 billion cars (that are) internal combustion engine powered on the planet. We need to replace that with clean mobility. That will need a lot of lithium. Not only the lithium may not be enough, but the concentration of the mining of lithium may create other geopolitical issues.".
I wouldn't own a Chinese EV if it was given to me. I don't like car fires.I wonder why they called this town "Cobalt". Its all a ploy to sell vehicles. There are warehouses in China full of lithium batteries. They sell electric cars for 12k that cost 50k here. Yes I would rather buy North American. I'm sure if you dont make impulsive buys you will reap the benefits.![]()
No kidding. I’m in the Santa Cruz mountains and 3 months into the year I’ve been without PG&E power for 30 of the 90 days, but who’s counting. Thank goodness for my 22kwh propane whole home generator to keep the lights on and more importantly the well running. The push to EV the vehicle market is so short sited that it is laughable and 100% a western world problem (Africa and large swaths of Asia won't be switching to EV's ever, except for extremely wealthy). I'm in CA and the government (PG&E) can't keep the lights on when it gets hot outside, what's going to happen when 10M cars need to be plugged in, that's a pretty massive draw on the grid.
The US currently will not permit any mining of the necessary materials needed for all the EV batteries, locally. Or where it will be permitted, it is cost prohibitive due to the regulatory nightmare that businesses need to go through to even move the first shovel full of dirt.
Keep your internal combustion vehicles for the long haul. All the pushes to get everything EV'd will keep being moved further into the century.
^^this^^im hopeful this points to them pushing hydrogen engines. That tech is just neat
They have been flying hydrogen powered turbojets in New Mexico, but using natural gas for production. A new tech is in the works to eliminate that. Toyota is banking on hydrogen. Let’s see what happensim hopeful this points to them pushing hydrogen engines. That tech is just neat

One other thing with EV’s is the charging. I’m asking from the point of view of all the younger folks who live in apartments, townhomes etc. How they gonna charge overnight without a charger? Most apartment complexes don’t have the infrastructure “power capability” to charge all the residents.much less pay to have them installed or the buildings upgraded.Stellantis CEO: Earth Doesn't Have Enough Raw Material to Meet EV Demand

until i read your comment I had never considered this.Apartment owners won't install chargers, due to cost, unless it's government mandated.
Since they want to do away with ICE, California will be the first to try it, after they try to force the Utilities to upgrade the Grid. Then they will mandate all charging to be done only when the sunlight is available.until i read your comment I had never considered this.
