Do dealerships normally stock the diesel model or do you really need to order it online?

Dude, says your in Nashville? Gupton is practically in your backyard. Given all their positive feedback. I'd say that's your first choice! I almost went that way when I bought my diesel but ended up getting a slightly better deal closer to home. 8 hour drive 8% off invoice. Instead of 8% off and a 27 hour drive. But of course that was early 21 as well. Yes I had the dreadful pump implosion. I was taken care of well. Go to Gupton and see what they say

Thanks for the input and information. I certainly don't have a problem with the waiting and always looking for new experiences so this would be the first vehicle I have purchased online.

I am waiting at this point to see what the 2024 model features and options are before making a decision.
That could be a dangerous game to play. Given the Ecodiesel already got the axe in the Ram and the Wrangler the Gladitator is in on borrowed time. You could wait for 2024 only to find it no longer being offered.

I agree with the post above. I played this game with ordering my second Wrangler EcoDiesel. Had order options ready with the dealer and waited since I did not need second one immediately. Dealer was to alert me with EcoDiesel order cutoff date only to watch one day comment on YouTube that Wrangler EcoDiesel order was no longer option. Alarmed I call dealer and got confirmation that it was no longer available. After recovering from bout of anger with the dealer, I ended up ordering Gladiator EcoDiesel. I am actually glad that it went this way, but this prove that this option could go away anytime without timely warning.

I had to order my JTRD. None was anywhere around. Plus I got the options I wanted.

I wouldn't wait too long to order a diesel. The cut off date is fast approaching. They said once the engines on stock is gone. That's it.

Question that I have is when using the online configuration tool, is the price it comes up with like MSRP and therefore I really need to work with the dealer on what the price really will be for the options that I want?

Build the vehicle you want online and download the PDF. Send that to the dealer (Gupton) and ask them to give you a price. You can basically expect 5% at minimum off invoice which equates to basically 10% off MSRP. In short, take 10% off of what you see online for the MSRP and that will give you a ballpark number. I believe Gupton offers up to 8% off invoice so it would be even more..

Thanks for the quick reply and the details, appreciate it. Working through using the tool and learning how the various options can be selected and how some interact with others. Fun and a learning experience as well.

Thanks for the advice. Being unfamiliar with the spec tool, last night I got myself turned around and confused when it came to the door option as I didn't really understand the difference between the three options it presented.

So what I did instead was to search out inventory within a good bit of distance from me by the model that I would be interested in, which is the Sport S. My needs really fit that model as I do mostly paved road, gravel, gravel/dirt road, that sort of thing, perhaps in the future some light overlanding.

Anyway, in searching the inventory I have found several good candidates. I saved the window sticker of the strongest candidate so far and my current thought is to contact a sales rep at the dealership I currently deal with and ask them to quote the configuration with a couple of changes.

I did find quite by accident that there are also a number of Wranglers in the diesel variation still out there in inventory and my current dealer has two of them on their lot. I know this is a Gladiator from and while my primary goal is for the truck, will admit those Wranglers look tempting.

Staying focused though for the moment to decide between the Gladiator and the Ram that I currently have.

I have a nicely built 2021 JTR diesel loaded (currently 21,200 miles) that I bought as a certified jeep in January, 2021. I don't want to spam everyone here but I'm thinking about selling it. If there is interest, maybe you can message me and we can take the conversation offline. I live in California.

The downside to not buying a vehicle frequently is sometimes I forget exactly when I did buy it. I believe it was a 2008 model year that I bought new. I do know it was a V6 Pentastar 3.6L. What I don't know is the specifics of the transmission beyond the fact that it was 4WD.
The 2008 Wrangler had the 3.8L V6, which is not the same as the Pentastar in today’s Gladiators. People sometimes call it the “Chrysler Minivan engine” because it was used in those for awhile too. Only reason why I mention this is because I have a 2007 Wrangler as well as my Gladiator.

Agree that if you want the diesel, you should look for one NOW because the future of them seems uncertain.

Appreciate the clarification on the 3.8L V6, that was something I did not know.

Also appreciate the thought on the diesel. When I first began looking into this I wasn't aware of the situation but have since realized that the matter has a high degree of uncertainty about it. I suppose in part due to the possibility of a "xe" hybrid setup coming with 2024 to help lay the groundwork for the new proposed EPA regs.

Certainly am giving it a lot of thought as I work through this so that I can make a decision that I will be happy with.

I bought my Overland Diesel in September 2022 and it’s the perfect setup for my needs. I took advantage of 0% financing which made it a stupid sweet deal. Grab yours quick…

Well I guess that I‘m glad that my order for mine went through. But now with the diesel going away, makes me wish that I ordered two.
