I've been having a lot of check engine lights due to the DEF system and want to "lighten" my truck. I am worried that if I do so before the cp4 recall is done, Stellantis will deny my pump replacement and warranty claim should the worst happen. So, I'm looking at potentially doing everything all at once including the pump. The question I have is, will our computer run the cp3 pump as is, or is there an aftermarket company providing a kit including tuning? I've been researching but can't seem to come up with a solid answer. Dodge is replacing cp4s with cp3s on the 6.7 Cummins, but I can't see anything related to our Gladiators specifically.

The EcoDiesel has always been built with the CP 4.x pump in favor of the CP3 as it does need the flow of the CP3. Could you retrofit it, probably, but you wouldn't see much if any benefit from it.

CP3 or CP4, the problem you need to address is lubricity. US Ultra Low Sulfur diesel does not have the lubricity required to keep these pumps happy. Add an ounce or two of HotShots EDT to every tank and you'll not have any issues.

There have been cp4 failures even when using lubrication additives. I believe the design of the pump (lifters spinning on the lobe) and lubrication to both be the causes of the failures. The thing is, when a cp3 fails, it doesn't send shrapnel through the fuel system (allegedly, from what I've read). Cp3 fails, replace cp3, move on with your life.

You're correct, the CP3 is a casualty party of one whereas the CP4.2 has quite the blast radius. The CP3 bolt pattern should match that of the CP4.2 but the trick will be the programming for the EcoDiesel. Maybe it is truly plug and play but I haven't looked at it hard enough.

Exactly. I'm more wondering about the programming of our ECUs and whether they would run the cp3 or not. I have more research to do for sure.

Pull one out, put one in, fire it up.

I love my old Cummins engines more and more.

From looking at a CP4 to CP3 on Ford's. Looks like it's more than a pump swap.

Whoa, no wonder it's taking so long if all those parts are required for the swap, and I'm sure our Jeeps need different configurations. This has to be costing somebody (Bosch?) a lot of money!

He said the book gave him 3.5 hrs. Think it will take most about 4.5 hrs.

If we are getting a CP3. There will be a bunch of new parts with it.
