I posted yesterday on the General Forum, a questions about going from Wildpeaks 33" to BFG 35", probably should have posted here...sorry about that

Another choice I was considering was form Falcon Wildpeaks 33" to BFG KO2 33".

Why, because of the difference in tire weight (~11 lbs) a tire which I think it is huge!

Anybody done this? What happened to the ride & gas mileage?

My only concern other than not improving the aesthetics of the Mojave Truck is my concern of how the lighter tires will interact with the stock Mojave suspension.

Will it make the ride harsher since the suspension is tuned for a heavier tire?

Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Weight on these things is not the magic button like it is on a performance vehicle. You probably won't notice any difference based just on weight.

Tire diameter has a much larger impact on driving dynamics, but on a Mojave, running 35's, especially the smaller than everyone elses (BFG) 35's, you'll get the belly a little farther away from the dirt and it fills the wheel wells better.

Went from stock Falcon MT to 315 70 17 KO2 (35's) on my Mojave. Not much changed except it drives better and looks better. It's more stable on the highway. I went with the E rated tires. Gas mileage stayed about the same.... Maybe. 5mpg less. The Mojave and Rubi's should come with 35's standard.

Thanks for the feedback! Would you mind sharing how did you make your decision between C & E? I have gone back and forth...

Well I actually bought C rated for the weight. When I got home I realized that Discount screwed up and put on E rated tires. I think that extra little bit of stiffness makes it drive so much better than the Wildpeaks. When they wear out I'll definitely get the E's again. FYI.. my wife's JL has the C rated KO2 (35's also). I think next time I rotate, I might mount my tires on hers to see if it makes a difference in the way they drive.

I appreciate the side picture, my Mojave is also Hydro Blue! I need to get a thumbnail.

I would love to hear about your experience when riding on your wife's tires!

E rated in one brand is not the same as E rated in another brand. Some brands have really stiff sidewalls, and others (bfg) have soft sidewalls even on E rated tires that would be more like D's or less in another brand. These are heavy trucks, you wont notice much difference between C, D, or even E tires (i've had all 3 on the gladiator) as long as you use the proper air pressure for the tire.

As for 11 pounds, you again wont notice anything on the butt dyno, these arent performance vehicles on performance tires so .1 of a second more or less on a 0-60 isnt going to be something to be worried about.

Good points above. I had D rated 315 Cooper ST Maxx tires that rode firmer than my E rated 315 Falken AT3's as an example of the points above. Loved them both, but the Falkens are a better street tire due to the extra siping for wet conditions.

More weight typically means there's going to be more rubber in the tires, if you hit areas with sharp rocks you want this. If only on the street go with whatever you think will make you happy. But do go up to at least a 285/75r17 - 34x11.5 or to the 315's, you'll be happy you did. The 285's are typically 1/2 shorter than the 315's that are never true 35's. Nice middle ground if unsure or don't want to go wide.

I’ve had KO2s AT and Wildpeaks AT and MT, all 33s. I saw no difference in mileage, but living in a rural setting, the KO2s like to pick up and sling gravel much more than the Falkens did. That gravel slinging and chipping the rear door hinges is known on the JL forums.

5mpg less is a lot to me lol . I’m planning on going with 35’s on my Mojave also but I hope the mpg loss is not more than 1 or 2 mpg

Pretty sure he means .5 mpg. as 5 mpg is more than I lost going stock 32.8's to 39s

I appreciate the input!

A common theme I am hearing is that the tire weight is not that big a deal on Jeeps. This is my first one, so that is new to me. I was thinking I could be doing the truck a favor (I am in it for the long game) by potentially going to much lighter tires (unsprung weight) but worried about the impact to the ride, since the suspension was tuned to a heavier tire.

I am not worried about 0-60 times, but longevity.

I have a hydroblue Mojave and I liked the performance of the stock Wildpeaks AT tires on rock, dry and wet pavement. So when I went to 35s I stayed with the same tire just bigger. I also like the extra stiff sidewall for lower air pressure situations on rocks. I feel my sidewall is more durable. My wheel and tire choice only added 10.6 pounds to each setup. I can live with that. Sometimes I wish I had 37s because it looks better and the ground clearance would be nice, but then I'd need a lift and probably should regear, not ready for those things yet. I went with 35x12.5x17 and rims with an 11mm offset so I get a nice little poke, just about the same as the Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Recon has with the 35s from the factory. Then they add the little extra flare to make them legal. I only notice the extra weight or tire size when going faster up hill or against the wind, drops to 7th earlier than 33s.
