The study showed that industry problems with driving didn't change, overall, but quality declined in all other categories, primarily features, controls and displays — followed by infotainment, the study revealed in its 37th year.

In midsize pickups, Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator tied for best in the segment, with Ford Maverick rounding out the top three, the study showed.

The study measures problems per 100 vehicles. So, for example, Dodge ranked as the top brand with 140 customer reported problems per vehicle overall while Buick ranked third with 162 problems. Vehicles have seen a rise, overall, of 30 problems per 100 vehicles over the past two years. Technology plays a role but it's just one factor.

Results are based on responses received from 93,380 people who purchased or leased new 2023 model-year vehicles who were surveyed early in their ownership period. The 223-question survey taken February through May of this year.

My entire extended family on one side works in market research. My uncle was a previous COB with Gallup and owns his own market research firm for the past few decades. He employed a good portion of his family at his new firm over the years. All of them referred to JD Powers as the market research firm you go to when you need an award and are willing to pay for it.

Now granted, they don't think the intial quality study falls under the same trap, but it does leave a LOT to be desired. For example: 'bluetooth wont connect' is judged at the same severity as 'engine wont start', and more importantly it does not account for owner error. Elderly people not understanding how their infotainment systems work has hurt car companies in the past. Ford's Sync 1.0 was judged very harshly for a system that worked very well, but was just new.

And any study that puts Honda just a ballhair over Jeep, when a look at real metrics of total build quality like lemons per million cars sold (where Honda is in first and second place is a long jog away) just makes me think "bullshit".

I love my Jeep for what it is, i don't need the bs trying to convince me it's better than it is. It's a jeep, and that's okay. shitty gas mileage, questionable reliability, and more fun than i can shake a stick at.

Funny, this is exactly what we all say together at the start of every Jeep Lover's Anonymous meeting.
