I send a mod an IM, but he hasn't responded and I see this scammer is still lurking the Marketplace, so this is to make sure no one gets scammed. Scammers are the lowest scum there is. Anyway, I posted a message looking to see if an item was still available in a thread from earlier this year. I received a message from a new user Gobble who said the OP was no longer on the site and I should email him at [email protected] . Well, I did and got a reply that it was still available. I asked him to log into the site and send me an IM so I knew it was him. He said he couldn't because he was out of town on business. Not sure why you could reply to my email but not log into the site. Anyway, he said his wife was shipping the item, so I asked him to have her take a pic with his username on paper. The dude photoshopped the real pic from the listing, flipping the image and adding the fake note. To be clear, the scammer is NOT Hoyster, that is who he is pretending to be. Both images below.

Once you get it send him a PayPal or paper check. Thanks for the notice.

Having seen some version of the "i'm selling something below market value while out of town/country and can only access limited forms of communication" decades ago, one would think scammers would adapt a new playbook, but i guess if it ain't broke...

Yeah, it's a flip image, clip another and paste it. No shading, no shadow, amateur "Paint" a 5 year old could do.

They do it because it works. Same for spam, any scam, phone, email or text. They keep at it because it works. If they try 1,000 times and get 4 or 5 takers, it was worth their time.

Yeah, pretty obvious. I loathe those people. I’m pretty cautious on most every transaction. Blank-list can be pretty bad as well.

For future reference, there is a "Report" button with a bell next to it. It is located in the bottom left hand corner of every post.

While there may be 2 Admins listed, JAY is the only one active. There may or may not be Moderators, they aren't identified.

BUT, the REPORT button will flag a post to whomever is logged in.

In this case, what would you report? The marketplace post is presumably legit, it's someone else trolling the area and contacting people privately. If they block people from accessing their profile (like you have), you can't even report the profile. I guess there might be an option to report a PM, never tried that.

It is in the message box also, why I stated every post.

I can't say that I've ever had a DM convo here with someone who has a locked profile, so as I said, I didn't know for sure if you could or could not. I do know that you can not just report a profile if it's locked. If you can, that's good to know.

You can not report a profile, you can report any post be it public or private.

AOL email, that dude is a old school scammer.

He's gonna burn an account that old for this? I'm sure it was stolen from some old guy. Should have sent back A/S/L to see for sure if it was his. lol

Uh, there are 1.5 million users still using AOL email and accounts. That's PAID plans. You can still cancel the paid plan and use the free plan and keep your email address. I know a guy - used to be my boss at CCC, who still uses his AOL email account (the free version) so if you take that 1.5 million paid subscribers and add to that all of the free, it's likely over 2 million.
Yahoo is still a very major player out there as well.
10 years ago there were 24 million AOL email users.

I had to look as I couldn't believe how many there still are - and in looking, I found this -

On March 16, 2017, Verizon, which had acquired AOL in 2015, announced that it would discontinue its in-house email services for internet subscribers, and migrate all customers to AOL Mail.

And, it's not just grandma!
