In the market for another trailer.

My 3200Lb Hike was just a bit too small.
Eyeing a 5000lb trailer.

My jeep curb weight with two of us in it and gear is about 5500lbs.

Jeep gladiator Rubicon is rated at 7000 towing at max.

Estimating fully loaded the trailer to be around 5700lbs, 5100 dry.

my GCWR is 12,100.
Trailer and truck combines about 11,200lbs.

This puts me at approx 900lbs margin between my gcvw and gcvwr. Within limits!

Payload will be right at max as well, give or take 50lbs on either side with the cargo and tongue weight of 530lbs. man technically I could move my cargo to the trailer and eat into the 900lbs margin and keep my payload below max.

I feel like my jeep towed the 3200lb trailer well, but when loaded with water and gear it was probably closer to 4000.

Of course I’ll be using a WDH with sway control, trailer brakes too.

So mathematically it is within limits. But, still feel like it’s pushing at at elevation and mountain passes, wind.

Anyone have experience towing upwards of 6k or close to gcvwr?

I pull a 23' dual axle TT 4,850 dry weight. Loaded Im probably 5,500. I use a WDH and sumo springs (more like neoprene cushions for bump stop) I run a brake controller. We travel 4 in the Jeep and some stuff in bed. I run a 3.6 gas motor and AT with the max tow package. I believe I am at my limit. I run hills in PA and keeps under 250 miles one way. I am seeking to down size to a smaller lighter TT. 3,000-3,500 lbs single axle. If I had it to do over I would start with smaller lighter and stay there. my2c. :)

Me personally - I'd reduce payload on the truck, put some of the stuff in the trailer.
It will help you reduce payload on the truck, but not change the total weight.
I'd rather tow it than haul it.

That would be way too close for me. For the best experience in all situations that’s not enough leeway. I always use 40-50% over spec for the best carefree experience. As you lower that your risks increase.
