15 days & $1050Dlls later ...

after having a Christmas Light show on my dashboard (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, TRACTION CONTROL,SERVICE 4WD , ABS & AC ) they finally figured out the problem with my JT
apparently the computer wasn't able to tell the diagnostic computer what whats going on due to
damaged wires that go to the PCM

they say is a very common problem when people upgrade their front fenders & install inner fender liners DUE TO RUBBING & STRETCHING lol ... tech told me that the warranty wont be covering this since " I cause the problem" in other words they charge me me $1050 TO REPAIR (5 DAMAGE WIRES) that go to the PCM & they wont be sure if that sold the problem WTF !!!

told them it was a lot of money for a repair that is not even guaranteed to fix the problem , They told me that I could take the jeep to be repair somewhere else LOL , they know they got me by the balls so I decided to go ahead and do the repair . (get it over with)

so they repaired the damaged wires & put some foam padding to avoid further rubbing , I guess they did a good job but $1050 seems like a lot .

anyways here are some pics if you want to address the problem before it happens to you :)

Yep. Dealer is correct, it’s a common problem with that wiring harness that runs right next to all the hot stuff on the passenger side behind the fender liner. A quick fix is to pull the liner and zip tie it out of the way so it doesn’t melt. Sucks you had to learn the hard way.

This is why it's so important when modifying your vehicle to be very careful looking for potential problems that can be caused by the parts you're installing. Sadly, aftermarket items often don't fit terribly well or were not designed with complete compatibility in mind, instead relying on the installer to tweak things as needed to fit. Always ensure there is adequate clearance between new parts and existing components, or when contact is unavoidable, provide some sort of chafe protection.

Sure be nice if jeep looked at what the end user does with thier purpose designed vehicles, and actually engineer things to accommodate these things. be a negligable expense on thier part that could be compensated for with minor price increase (I'd pay an extra 10.00 for the 1.00 zip tie if the would reposition that wire bundle in toledo)

Problem is - they can't account for EVERY contingency.
It reminds me of when I was in charge of the security software for a major multi-national insurance company....... we kept having issues where certain endpoints didn't get updated like they should.
I shipped off all of the information I could to the software vendor, eventually giving them enough information where they could recreate the network protocols, servers and so on in their own labs.
Come to find out, we were the only entity they knew of using our mix of server types and protocols. They had to write around that, sent me code to alfa test, it worked, and they put it out as an update naming the fix after the company I worked for then. Apparently a couple of other major companies had similar problems but didn't realize it and thought the issues were elsewhere as the company said later they heard from others asking what they did - because things just magically started working.

There's no way of knowing every possible combination of tires, wheels, fender flares, fender liners, every-which-way something can possibly flex or be taken to or beyond limits. They have to work to the lowest common denominator.
Going beyond common mods, it's up to us as owners - and modifiers - to look, be aware of what our own mods or combinations there-of may end up doing.
To make a change where it would only impact a handful of people is more costly than a buck - every mod must be tracked, documented, tested, approved. Anyone working in an ISO company knows the drill. A 50 cent part change may cost thousands of times that in the end due to the things that must happen in the background.
One company I worked for couldn't make a change to the routing of a trace on a PCB without a whole complex series of steps and approvals, testing and documentation. I recall when auditors came one year - every employee had to know how that system worked and how to find the records for changes - even if you were IT and not engineering.

Do all inner fender liners do this, or just your specific brand? You may want to let the brand you used know so they can make buyers aware of the issue and take measures to avoid this issue. Maybe let us know the brand as well?

I don’t think is the brand at all , it’s just a bad placement from factory , I have a aftermarket front bumper as well .
just wear & tear I guess

Yeah, that is way outside Jeep's control to account for and accommodate. That rests with the aftermarket part maker to take accountability and the installer to a lesser degree to make sure what they are installing does not interfere and cause damage.

Where exactly are these again? That shown wire bundle is the one that goes down near the upper shock bolt? I want to start looking at this

Ok fare enough that Jeep can't know what mods can be done and how it affects wiring etc. But they can fix their junk design flaws..thicker suspension brackets, squared holes for a couple of the suspension brackets and lets not forget the genius of using full threaded bolts for suspension links. Lack of castor..lets put more separation in so stock we get min 6-8* All these could be easily fixed for likely less than $100 on a manufacturing level. How about some quality speakers when we get the Alpine system..goes on and on.

Why is that a problem?
Doesn't matter how many threads are there, as long as there's enough.

Ouch! way too much especially stock. You can get into trouble with caster wobble. You aren't a tech, are you............... been reading some nonsense out there?
That's extremely unscientific and just flies in the face of fact.

Built not bought 6+ jeeps, Early Broncos ect plus countless trucks and cars..for 50 years. No one that's knows a dam about suspension has threads going suspension links or brackets as they will act like a file. Your not going to have issues with 6-8* of Castor.

Here is a couple of pictures of what jeep bolts can do to a stock jeep in 20k miles of street driving.

Then it was too loose. Properly clamped can't do that.
