Here’s a little story
Id like to tell
About two bad batteries
You know so well
It started way back
In history
With the dealership and me, Timmy…

actually, it started with my aux switches not working until the batteries charged up…
I knew my warranty was ending so I went to the dealership to have it looked at after I pulled the Tazer.
they charged the batteries over the day and said nothing is wrong.

on the way home, I noticed by accident the stop start wasn’t working. I did not get a warning light but I did get a message that the start stop was not ready, battery charging.
I turned around and went back to the dealership after about an hour of driving, I wanted to see if it would come back on.

btw: I never use the ESS..

well, I went back to the dealership three more times, one of them overnight.
everytime, they would charge it up and tell me that it’s good for now.
they had no clue why it wasn’t working. I was told how quirky the gladiators charging system is.
I was also told that my batteries were “borderline” and “really good”.

out of frustration, I decided to check everything myself, I’m a smart guy too.
I gave the dealership their chance and now I wanted to see for myself.

I pulled both batteries from the jeep, very happy that the diesel comes out so easily.
took an initial reading with the fluke
Charged both batteries.
recorded the charged level.
reset the IBS
Put it all together and everything works now.

being that the Jeep is two years old with 36k on it, I bought new batteries and am trying to decide if I want to install them or take em back.
im leaning towards keeping them.

I know this is a common story, I’m just bummed out about four or five wasted days at the dealership. They left me feeling like they were waiting out my warranty and were wasting my time.
That’s it, I hope your dealership makes you feel like a valued customer.

That’s what they do best. Wast your time with no concern whatsoever. No problem found is the title of their service manuals.

Another story from another Timmy with a diesel. I too have taken it back to two different dealers for batteries. They tested and said they were fine. They are not. I keep them going with a battery maintainer but it is only a matter of time before I buy new batteries!

It's not so much the dealer, as it is the Jeep warranty process. Jeep wants to make sure the batteries are bad before they will pay to replace them. They have a specific process to follow, and Jeep, not the dealer, makes the replacement decision.

If these are not regularly driven, or kept on a battery maintainer, the batteries have a shorter life. When you start getting the Unavailable and Charging messages, the first step is to disconnect and separately charge each battery (and reset the IBS). If the problem doesn't go away, then it is time to look at replacement.

Mine gets about 60 miles of highway everyday.
It feels like Jeep is out of touch on this one.

It would also help if they used higher quality batteries, but that costs more. The batteries they use get the majority through the initial warranty period, and then the owner usually replaces them with something better.

When mine decide to give me problems. It's Odyssey time. I'm not wasting my time with the dealer and getting the same batteries.

Another crappy dealer story. Dropped my truck off at the local dealership for a regular oil change, (with whom I've been going to for every oil change for about 3 years) on Thursday. Come to pick her up in the afternoon. About a block down the street and my check in engin light goes on, fwc light and acc also comes on. Brought her right back to have them take a look. Their first guess was bad batteries, with me still sitting in the truck. They took her in for about 10 mins and came back to tell me I had 14 codes and failures. Told me it was due to my "big" wheels and lift. I'm on 37s with a 2.5" lift. My warranty had just ran out as well. Told me it was on my dime. Drove her home to get a feel for what's going on. Shifting was bad, rode kinda rough, speedometer wasn't matching my gps. I'm far from being a competent mechanic, but my first thought was, did they change my settings? Sure enough, the reset to stock 33s and 4.10. why? Also had my tire pumped up to 40psi. What the hell? Put my tazer back on, reconfigure. And she running smooth again. Although the stop/start not ready is there. Not sure if that was there before or not though. No explanation on the dash either.
