I got two quotes from two out of state dealers - MD and WA. The WA is just the negotiated price and some doc fees, MD price has doc fees but also includes my home state tax and registration (both of which are wrong amounts). Why is it the out of state dealer business to collect those? I can't get an explanation from them other that this is how they do things.

MD sales tax would only be for vehicles that are going to be titled and tagged in MD; our sales tax is 6%

I live in MD and bought mine from Koons at Tysons Corner, VA and the taxes they collected from me was for MD.

I live in Delaware but bought my last Gladiator in Maryland. If I was to speculate, they probably use a third party company that will handle the out of state registration and collect the taxes and fees for that. Their calculator maybe out of date, especially if you are not a near or bordering state they usually deal with for out of state customers.

If you can talk to whomever their actual title and registration person is, you may be able to purchase without paying the taxes there and they just give you a packet with the sales order and vehicle MSO title you will need to get the first state issued title.

You as a consumer can also opt to take responsibility for the tax and tag fees and not pay it to the dealer. When I bought my Tahoe in Chicago I only paid the title fee and did everything else in MD

Probably a stupid tracker. It's probably already installed, hacked into the OBD port wires like mine was.

Mine has that Ikon tracker device on it. Did you remove yours? If so, do you have any pics? Also, who is tracking this and what access do I have to it?

Ikon sells the dealer the ability to offer the customer a dealer branded app for GPS tracking that they can resell to the customer and a very inflated price and then monthly or yearly subscription fees. The last customer cost I saw was $1295 for the "Theft Recovery Package"

The tracker itself is cheap, usually under $100 cost to the dealer. It's simply another way for a dealer to vacuum money out of your wallet.

Most times they are hacked into the wiring. Jeep already has this built into UConnect. There is no need for anything aftermarket like Ikon. Both Ikon and UConnect can be fairly easily defeated by most thieves. These only will affect the smash and grab thief. The pro will disable these devices. You are better off with hidden air tags or the Samsung equivalent.

Old thread, but new Jeep Gladiator owner. I purchased a used 2023 two owner Gladiator recently.

Did some poking around under the drivers side steering wheel/kick plate and found, not 1, but 2 Ikon trackers behind the kick plate (the plastic next to the left foot).

Neither were connected to the ODB port and were easy enough to fish out. After I removed them, I noticed 2 Ikon stickers in the door frame (where the tire placard is). Each has a serial number (or maybe it's a cell IMEI number?) that matched the number on the physical trackers.

The Jeep was purchased and operated in Florida and ultimately sold (traded in likely) to another Florida dealer, purchased and ultimately sold to my dealer in TN.

My dealer didn't install one, so perhaps Florida dealers are all in on Ikon?

Been a couple of year, but I could play with the online build tool and load a JT out into the $80K+ range pretty easy.
