I have a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon with towing kit. I want to install a Clayton 2.5 inch lift kit with Goodrich Mud Terrain 37x12.50x17 inch tires on 8.5 inch wide wheels. What offset or backspacing should be run on the wheel for clearances? Should I be concerned about rubbing?

+20 offset is recommended, any further in and you may rub. you can go as far out as you want but i recommend 0 offset max.

I am running 0 offset Warn Jackhammer’s, I just went up to 37 KO2’s from 35 KO2’s. With the 35’s I never had any issues with rubbing while wheeling, I haven’t been out wheeling on the 37’s yet, but I don’t anticipate running into issues. Time will tell though, I like the way the wheels look and the amount of poke I get.

37 KO2s aren't true to size. They are only 35.5" tall. they will fit just fine. I run 37s that measure 36.6" tall with no lift and they don't rub either.

Yes, I am aware. No 37 inch tire measures at 37 inches mounted. That is why I always make sure to point out that my “37’s” are the KO2’s, the weight savings over other brands “37’s” is why I chose them. I also have had very good luck with wear and mileage on multiple sets of the KO2’s, in 35 and 37.

its a solid choice tire imo. the weight savings is well worth that .5 inch

For every one inch of wheel / tire width you add, you want to increase your negative offset by a half inch (13 mm) to stay at or near even.
Stock Rubicon rims are +44 mm and 7.5" wide. Stock tires are 11.5" wide.

Stock vs +31mm and 12.5 wide
Note that all of the added width ends up to the outside, because the offset was reduced accordingly.

0 offset-- 4.75 BS will give you about !" of tire poke. I would then recommend the fender flare extentions to reduce side splash...

AEV wheels are +25 and no issues with 37s.

most lift companies require a little more because of how their aftermarket lower control arms bend causing the tire to rub with not enough backspace/offset.

I have same JT and bought AEV wheels for my 37”’s and they have never rubbed, not even close. Copy their offset and you are good.

I have 17x8" wheels with an ET of +30, no rubbing and they don't poke out much at all...
So 8.5" +25 should be fine... probably even +30 would work. What ET do those wheels you want come in?

Not sure, I haven't decided on the exact wheel yet.

That will make the difference. Most wheels only come in a couple different widths and a couple different offsets.
I wanted 20x8.5 but my the 20" version of my wheels only came with a -19mm offset, and they would stick out to far .
So you should pick your rims out first and then see what offsets are available

+25 would be perfect for this setup.
Most of the wheel manufacturers aim for a sweet spot of offset that will make them work for a wider range of vehicles and mainstream trucks. Jeeps don't need all of that extra poke, and hanging a lot of force and weigh way out there is only going to cause you more grief and more money.

That's likely true, but my concern would be that a 35X12.50 tire would rub on the inside on stock Rubicon wheels.
