Perfect timing. I was just coming to the forum to look for the same info. Someone has to have done it already
I saw another post about it a while back and it just took me a while to order. Hopefully it is easy. I am on vacation right now so it is probably going to be two weeks before I start on it. I will keep you guys updated.

if anyone has the wiring diagram for the tailgate, please let me know.

Word of warning. I bought the power lock kit a while back, and drilled all my plastic lock housings at once using the drill template. Then none of them worked. In my case, the pin is running into the very edge of the latch, and won't extend fully. So no function until I get in there with a tool and carve out a little clearance channel for the pin (I lost momentum at this point so I haven't actually gotten these working yet)

Point is, these are hand tool modifications made to plastic parts. It's not precision machining. Do one, test it, check function, see if you need to make changes before doing them all. If I'd just offset the drill template a hair, I'd have saved myself a bunch of trouble

Canopylocks also just sent me new actuators due to some problem they'd discovered - a different problem than this. Sigh

Thanks for the warning, I will check the first one carefully before moving on. Did you figure out the wiring for the locks?

It is inconvenient as @ttn333 said, but the keys are notoriously hard to get in and out of the locks and it becomes frustrating.
I put some lubricant on my key/locks that came with my rtic soft cooler that was for the zipper and my locks have been easy ever since. Before I did that they were awful. So that might be worth a try.

Agreed. I've had the original Explorer Canopy for nearly 4 years and I just put some graphite lock oil in them every so often. They've never missed a beat.

Just a general question for those in the know, do these central power lock assemblies still allow you to use the key to unlock it if for any reason power is unavailable to them or if an actuator fails. That is always my biggest fear with these kinds of things.

I actually have the Canopy Camper, not the Camper shell, so I just pulled the wiring harness out of my tailgate (sitting in storage, as you remove it for the ACCC) and tapped the brake signal and lock signal. I wish I’d noted down what the wire colors were. It was very obvious on a multimeter which one was the lock signal. Just vampire tap that one. The thing I haven’t proved out yet - is whether the current on that wire can reliably run all 4-6 locks, or whether it needs to trigger a relay. I’d assume for the 6 in the Canopy kit, that you need a relay. I can pull the wire color if it helps, it’s still accessible

If power fails (or wires rattle loose etc) it will be stuck locked. While the pin is extended, you won’t be able to push in the release tab to open the latch (regardless of what you do with the key). But you can manually pull the pin from inside (if you install the optional manual override anyway). So to be truly locked out, you’d need one on all three doors to fail closed at the same time. I don’t see any way around this.

Roger that and thanks for the reply. This is a what I was worried about.

It is probably unrealistic that one mechanism on each door would fail at the same time so that doesn't concern me terribly, although I can't envision my fat @$$ climbing through a side door with cupboards installed and over everything in the bed to try and free the other doors...lol. However, a full loss of power is a something that I could realistically see happening: it might almost make sense to try to install as much of the electronics/electrical outside of the bed (well hidden of course) just in case some wires come loose as you've called out.

Hard to describe without pictures, but you can probably push in the unpowered pin with a slim, stiff piece of metal of the right width. Something like a feeler gauge of the right thickness. Not the ultimate security - but these are plastic handles, if someone really wants in, it’s not much work with a drill or prybar regardless. I’ll try to get some pics. I’ve been meaning to share more of my experience with this kit but like I said, lost momentum.

I tried lubing the locks on my canopy camper and contour canopy to no avail. One lock works great, the others are tough to get the key in and out.

I bought the six pack of locks, but may only replace the drivers side and rear locks in case there is ever a problem. Those are the two doors I open the most anyways.

Any one with this canopy on a Mojave that has also added aRTT and awning? I am looking to add all this stuff and it adds up to 400lbs. Have you added better springs in the rear or used air bags? Trying to figure out what all needs to be done to run this setup. Thannks for any input.

I’m at 345lbs with my awning, rtt, and contour canopy. I have Clayton’s overland plus kit. But don’t quote me, I don’t think they recommend going to their heavy duty springs unless your at 500lbs every single day. I also don’t keep my tent on in the midst of summer or winter. I primarily camp in the spring and fall. But with the weight of the winch and front bumper as well. Oh and my fat ass haha I might call and ask about their heavy duty springs. But just from looking at it doesn’t look like it’s sagging.

Sounds about right. I have a 150lb rtt, 50lb 270 awning, 25 lb shower tent. I'm adding up to a bit more than that with a 65L fridge, food, LiFePO4, other camping gear and 13 gallons of water. I do run Dobinson extreme duty 3" springs in the back and clayton 2.5" (about 3" actual) in the front (steel bumper and winch). The truck is level.
