I'm using a Flagstaff A frame with a cargo deck. Not a rough road rig but it gets me to basecamp for mountain biking.
The low towing height makes a difference on the highway. About 2400# loaded and water tank full.

Ok, I have to share this photo from 1981. This may not be a JT per se, but it's the JT's grandfather. In 1981 I bought the first CJ-8 Scrambler in San Diego County from Brown's Jeep in Santee CA. it had the Iron Duke 4cyl and a 4spd manual trans. I had a '76 Scamp 13. We made many trips to Anza-Borrego in this combo. I sold the Scamp, and bought a Danish Combi-Camp tent trailer that went to the desert many more times over the next few years. I have photos of that somewhere, but they're not digitized.

What do you carry in the box trailer? Is the JT set up to tow four-down behind the moho too? Gorgeous moho btw. Love the Freightliner M2 and International chassis super-C coaches.

Little Guy teardrop. It's been a very nice upgrade from tent life for sleeping comfort and travel/camp convenience. Been very happy with how easy it is to tow too. After I couple years i am considering a change to an Aliner A frame style camper. I'd like to be able to make coffee and breakfast inside if the weather is crummy....oh and stand up to put on pants. Not sure of Aliners durability yet.

Here is my Little Guy at my camp site. I had just come back from checking out some trails above Lake Pend Oreal in Idaho. There had been a thunderstorm the day before so quite a few mud puddles. I upgraded my Little Guy with a lift kit and went from 13" to 15" tires and then because of a burned out wheel bearing a heavier duty suspension was added giving 15" clearance.

Honda Talon 1000r flv in trlr ++; but the trlr also doubles as hunting base for time being. While these pix are staged, the little "truck" does "ok" towing the 16' all alum trailer fully loaded, but it is not something that will be habit. I have a GMC w/8.1 for that purpose. Needless to say, the rv has no idea what is behind it, but we may never tow the jeep. in all the yrs we have rv'd, we have never toad a car because it is too cheap to rent if needed. Most states we travel allow the fully licensed, street legal Talon to be used as our on/off road transport. The gcwr for rv is huge and could triple tow if I had the cajones.

I had some pretty severe sway issues initially with the Globetrotter because of the light tongue weight and improper setup of the Blue Ox SwayPro hitch that came with it. I relied on the dealer to set it up initially.
The Airstream dealership also screwed up the install of the WDH. They are a multi-brand place and measured to the top of the frame which was 2” too high. Our initial shakedown trip to a local campground was real bad. Being a towing noob it took me a while to figure that out but once I got that sorted we did an 800 miles round trip to South Padre Island and that went very well.

I towed my Casita
I found a post specifically about what folks are towing with their JT diesels, but I thought I'd start a thread for everyone to discuss what they tow with their JT and what cha

I am an old, retired guy. My hard-off-road 'wheelin' days are behind me. Back in the old days when men were made of steel and ships were made of wood (well, the late '70s and into the '80s anyway) Dick Cepek on El Cajon Blvd in El Cajon (San Diego) was THE off-road outfitter. Most of us drove Jeeps that were more or less stock in those days.

With my (then new) '79 CJ-7 Golden Eagle and later my '81 Scrambler, I did the heavy-duty back country camping with tents and then a couple of different campers. Of course things were different then. If you wanted a true off-road "camper" you bought an old military trailer and built it. The favorite camper(s) I had were an early Scamp 13 and later a Combi-Camp tent trailer built in Denmark. I spent a LOT of time in the desert dry camping with those setups in the washes and arroyos. In those days there weren't any published tow ratings. We towed what we thought we could tow safely.

But now I'm interested mostly in being comfortable. Until early this month, I had a Born Free 32RQ motorhome on a Chevy Kodiak chassis that I towed my '16 JKU Rubicon behind. We'd establish a base camp somewhere reasonably easy to get to and use the Rubicon to explore. Then I bought the JT Overland and decided we'd be better off towing a trailer doing the same routine. So, the JKU got traded for the JT, the big motorhome got sold, and after doing the math on weights, we picked up an Airstream Globetrotter 23FB queen.

So, here's what we now tow with our JT. It's done fine for the 500 miles from Ohio back to Iowa. Our future travels await us. Let's see what campers you all tow with your JTs and tell us how you use them.

I am one of the”Iron Men” from the age of wooden ships!
On I was on a minesweeper in the early ‘60, I made a Med Cruise. The return voyage was a time consuming event from Rota, Spain to Little Creek, VA. We were going 5 knots because we lost our port engine and only had one of two screws turning.
Barcelona, Marseille, Bastia Corsica, NapLes, Malta, la Spezia, Ancona, and Sicily during the winter were not crowded with tourists.

I took my Casita to Anchorage and back to Florida. I got 17 MPG overall.
Those Canucks really soaked me for diesel, I recall paying $95.15 (Canadian) for 39.997 litres!
I went 14000 miles over all on the trip
The Casita towed easily and nothing broke or failed. I got my fourth windshield (during the first 10 months I owned the Gladiator) in Shelby, MT. After the new windshield was installed I crossed the border in to Canada and I encountered golf ball sized hail! I had no damage as I parked on the shoulder until the storm passed. On my return I had a gravel truck pull out in front of me in a Yukon construction zone, he put a chip on my recent windshield. I had a repair kit and I prevented the chip from spreading.
I took my “Rescue” dog, Kate. We saw bison, elk, moose, grizzly and black bears, sheep, and really scenic views!
I would lik to do it again.

We are doing the same trip 2025, leaving 6-01-2025 for 2 months. I have a super c rv but the cost would likely be overwhelming AND it is a big windshield; so we will take the jeep with a small trlr. I've driven the route 2x in past and kinda know what, when and where to expect the road hazards and rocket sized mosquitos. Regardless, windshield damage is inevitable. Although a yr away, we are planning the rip now. Can't wait to do it again.

Best wishes for your next trip!
I carried a plethora of tools and repair/a]maintenance items. Replacement Bearings for the Casita, oil and filters for the Jeep, Jack stands, torque wrench, tire repair kit, windshield repair kit, Jerry can of diesel, grease gun and lubes for trailer bearings, fuses, etc.
i also had a 3.5 Kw generator wit a 5 gallon Jerry van if gas to run it. Spare eye glasses, magnifying glass to read maps.
I lost my Sirius in BC, i had it return briefly in Yukon. My GARMIN GPS held up all the way but my “Car Play” GPS was mostly non-existent.
