Doing install. Overland Vehicle Systems offers no guidance in the instructions about torque specs for the 4 bolts attaching to mount plate. Anyone have a link on this? Thanks.

Not sure any of them do, I use the bolt size and thread pitch and go by the numbers for that type and size of bolt. But I also realize - I'm not bolting into solid steel as far as the winch body.

They don't give any Information on the bolts thread pitch. 8.8 is the only number on the bolt head, that is grade of metal.

8.8 grade is metric bolts, similar to grade 5 in sae. I think 30ft lb should be enough since you're clamping aluminum and steel. It requires less torque vs steel to steel.

Also, finer thread pitch requires less torque to have the same clamping power as coarse threads. It's probably M8-1.25 or M10

As tight as you can get it without snapping the bolts. ?

Sometimes, you just have to make a reasonable guess. Check it several times over the next few months, and after every use.

Even when they are supplying the attachment hardware, it's difficult to provide accurate torque information, since the winch plates are not all the same.

30 seems like nothing for a winch that might pull 6 or 8 thousand pounds

I found something for 8.8 bolts suggesting a torque of 37.

I’ve seen 35ft lbs listed…

A well-stocked garage needs calipers and thread gauges for this reason. Diameter and thread pitch (tpi, or mm/per thread) are not hard to measure. I have one of these, it's good enough for automotive use.

But yeah as above, other winches are basically similar and do have proper instructions including torque. My Warn VR10s also calls for 30-35 ft-lbs

My Warn Zeon came with instructions that included torque and required bolt length based on mounting plate thickness:

I will go with this. The Scar is private label warn so should be the same. Warn gives much better instructions obviously.
