Some of you know when my second engine was installed, the tech made the mistake of topping up the oil with 6L but didn’t know it already had 6L in it and I did my first oil change on it and 12L drained out. The intake tube and manifold was an oily mess and the truck went in to have the top end stuff like manifold and plugs pulled out and cleaned.

Jump ahead near 60k and I had a P0305 misfire and code wasn’t stored and I was told to monitor it. I picked up a spark plug and a new coil and pulled #5 plug and we saw a troubled plug for sure and the coil was fine. I changed the plug and took a trip to BC and back and all ran great and happy. So here we are today and I know I want to change out all my plugs and when I do that, the intake manifold comes off.

Question I have is when I go through the job of pulling the intake manifold off should I change out the oil cooler, PCV and EGR too?? I haven’t located the EGR so I don’t even know if the manifold is in the way. So with knowing that all this oil was up in there making a mess of things, would the EGR have been impacted too?

And yes, I am fully aware I may have asked a stupid question.

Thanks y’all, eh.

If the oil cooler is not leaking, then there is no reason to change it out. When you refer to the "ERG", are you referring to the EGR valve? If so, it can be cleaned. As for the PCV valve, it won't hurt to change it, but you may already have the latest version.

EGR is on the left side of the engine, with cooler lines as it's cooled EGR.

This is still a physically damaged spark plug. This isn't from wire brushing. it's physically damaged, not from wear, not from normal sparking and combustion.

I am also wondering about the 2 round silver balls -

I'd do the oil cooler upgrade just for peace of mind, and because it's convenient while you're already down to that point.

I'd also throw the newer and most mysterious $115 PCV valve (68609110AA) on it from TSB 09-12-22

Well today was the day I got to taking off the intake manifold, replacethe spark plugs and PCV valve. (JTR, 3.6, 60k kms)

Thank God I could read the tech sheets for the intake manifold r n r (thanks to @Hootbro for posting those). Thanks to no one on YouTube for posting nothing of substance for the PCV r n r (I did figure it out).

Thinking back to the conversation with the shop Forman that it is normal to see a cup of oil in the intake manifold whenever they take them off, I noticed nothing poured out of mine. I wanted to see just how well the tech had cleaned up the mess of the 12L mistakenly put in the engine then puked up through the PCV, filling the intake tube and manifold in the first 1567 kms of the second engine.

I filled the intake manifold with brake cleaner and shook the shit out of it for a min before dumping it out. There was so much crap in there, it was disgusting. So I did it three times till the brake cleaner was clear.

Looking down to the valves, they didn’t look too bad but I sprayed a good amount of throttle body cleaner down each runner. (Sorry if I’m not using the proper terminology for these things. I’m hoping you all are able to guess what I’m trying to say)

I also did my oil change today @5000 kms and I was down 1/4 litre. I’m noticing the red colour on the plugs except for #6 plug. Pretty fouled up and the gap is very wide to the others.

So at the end of the day, no left over nuts or bolts so that’s a good thing. The truck test drove real nice, very responsive. So for all the guessing, speculating and sheer luck on my side, it all went super well.

hmm what happened to that guy?

if the plug was faulty, it'll look sooty. Low spark? heavy breathing injector? Hate when one looks different.

But hey... looks like they all want replaced.
