To store or sell. A hard decision. Point of thought is where are you going overseas. Europe, SWA, SEA, Africa. S. America or some island. If I was going back to Europe heck yeah it's going. Probably still if going some others. But that's dependent on job overseas too. My first time in Europe I didn't take my vehicle so my assignment was changed due to that... second trip I took my MJ. I should have sold it there. I would have made quite a nice profit from it.
On storage I've stored more than a few times for deployments, one for 18 months. My LJ sat in my garage for that one, my MJ and XJ's outside in driveway and yard. S.E. GA. When I PCSed to Europe first time I left vehicle I had with family, not best choice... should have sold it or shipped it. On few deployments the post I was at setup a storage area bad choice for all that used it, it flooded to over 2ft deep water in places. The second was contracted out that was as bad and worse. It flooded and many vehicle got broken into. ? When I moved from GA. to AL. I stored my MJ, XJ's, trailer and crap load of parts there until I could pick them up... most of my parts disappeared and the trailer. :headbang: 2 engines, transmissions T-case axles ect, ect.
Storage insurance is highly recommended if you do store, mine was cheap partly due to multiple vehicles and my driving record and other things.
Nice truck by the way.

Well this is fun. L made a clever pun about spies and B. . .got offended? Now we have a declaration that stock jeeps are not as jeepy as modified jeeps.

My vote is for storage. You're going to lose money on a sale, even if you put it back to stock as much as possible. Modern cars do well in storage, materials are a lot better than they used to be.

If you're worried about pennies lost on depreciating objects like cars...then "penny wise and dollar dumb" comes to mind.

Especially those of us with no plans to ever sell, so the entire expense(s) is sunk anyway. ;)

Right, but the OP appears to be trying to make back all of their money with a list price of 85k on a used, modified, truck. Hence my comment on having better luck recouping costs by taking it back apart.

This was, after all, a thread about what the OP should do - sell or store?

All fine and dandy...you're the one that enggaged me. Until then I didn't know that you were alive.

Another aspect that he might prefer selling is that he'd prefer to start over, employing things he's learned from this build into a new one, and possibly doing something differently.

That's the best part of these vehicles.
You can choose to remain a puke with a stock Jeep or you can go all out and throw more money into one than you'd ever hope to recoup.

At any rate, OP, best wishes on your overseas endeavors and get home soon and safe!

WOW! extremely sweet JT. tough decisions for sure. You have a lot of $'s tied up in it so I get the urge to sell it. If you can afford to keep it, and you love to drive it, Store it. Tough call, I hope you navigate through the decision making process safely.

Yup, and that may be why the OP hasn't been back since posting. Keeping a thread on-track around here is like hearding cats.

Wait, I think I've said that before.

Well I guess thats what you get for bringing a jeep to a knife fight. I appreciate most of the advice and input. I never understood the concept of chop it and sell parts when time and effort were put into a vehicle with a fairly wide appeal ( not everyone likes it and that is ok with me ). I have always made money on vehicles I have built because there are always people who desperately want it but dont know how (or dont have time) to build it. I was contacted by a premium auction house that I have used before and they want to do an feature article on it and then after a period do a reserve auction. Now im deciding if I really want to sell it. It will probably end up overseas with someone else. Everyone have a drink and relax....

Always have to keep Jeep history in mind. They may discontinue production/sales of the JT while you are gone, 2-4 years. I am not predicting it but it is always a possibility. That mini-Ram truck they been talking about could put the JT on the outs.. If you want one when you get home, you may have to buy used and regret your sale.

I like to buy and hold long term, For some of us, these JTs can be easy 10-14 year trucks before we sell off and still make good money ( or throw in the garage and use for fun/trail and buy a new daily driver).

Good Luck, some really good suggestions in most of above posts.......

Great Jeep! I have a super secure, climate controlled concrete building in Jensen Beach Florida. It's 28 ft above sea level and I built it beyond Miami Dade standards to safely store my toys. It's in a residential neighborhood, not in a out of the way industrial park. I'll store it for $250 month if you'd like. Just do an oil/filter change, put a good gas stabilizer in a full topped off tank, and put it on a C Tek 7200 battery charger (By far the best battery charger out there) on snowflake mode and leave it till you come back. No need to "drive it". When you're back, you'll have something to look forward to. Bill

Store it. I had a great CJ7 and received orders for Germany which was usually a 3 year tour. I sold the Jeep. 18 months later I was back in the states looking for a vehicle kicking myself. Still stings
