Here is the bottom line. Everybody that has put a catch can on these motors gets oil in the catch can. The only question is whether pushing that oil back in the intake is harmful or not. We have a TSB that is telling us that, depending on the amount of oil, it could be harmful and cause carbon build up, which in turn causes pinging. So, it depends on each individual motor. If an owner wants to be safe, and not take a chance that too much oil is going back into the intake, then, it makes perfect sense that they add a catch can.... ie. somebody that tows in the mountains, and is at high rpm more than others could be at more risk than someone that drives on flat land at low rpm.... In my case, I am in the mountains, I am always on inclines, I was getting an EGR error, and I found carbon on my EGR valve, and I decided to add a catch can.

Seriously?
You have no clue. I made it very clear all of the variables, and modified vs. not and so on.
One just can't use logic at all with you.
I've been dealing with engines and vehicles since before half of the members here were born, and I know ALL of the variables, and how these things get used - or not used.
Even I don't have a "standard driving habit" or situation. Some days it gets beat on, some days it goes to the doctor and back, a casual drive.
I've run my JTs up way past lose your license speeds, and I beat on it plowing snow.

I also know the science of combustion, the chemistry, and the ways PCV systems work, valving, testing, and so on.

I am assuming nothing because every vehicle I've ever worked on has been used/driven in different ways. Some babied, some ridden hard and put away wet.

Looks to me like you are the one assuming - like saying the moisture is there because it comes from the atmosphere?

I try to back things with science, reality, and experience of decades, and get back this?

Once again, I'm done. I try to give real answers and true explanations - but no............

I want one for my 3.0, but have found very little on it. I figure if the oil vapor is removed or at least reduced the component would go back into the combustion chamber, not as tacky and would prevent buildup as fast..

I went over 7,000 miles on my last oil change - it wasn't even yet half-way down on the add/full part of the stick, and to this day, has no ping at all. (I'd say maybe 1/3 of the way down in that time)
That all? I'm overdue because my 7500mi alert went off somewhere in Kansas at the end of May. So add another 2000 miles on top of that. Zero issues.

This afternoon I'll be crawling underneath and getting a little dirty.

@Maximus Gladius @ShadowsPapa

cylinder 6 is the farthest back cylinder in the engine. I'm wondering if Max here has spent a lot of time at excessive uphill incline while offroading? Would this explain the rear cylinders getting oiled up while still having within spec blow by? because if that is the case, i don't think a catch can will prevent those plugs from fouling again in the future? Its just standing out to me cus it the rear cylinders and not the fronts? All have a little bit of oil burn. I think everyone does and if if your a heavy user, maybe up your spark plug change interval? but 2 getting soaked more than the rest tells me something else is wrong?

There’s been no excessive uphill incline while off-roading. It’s always been very flat where I live and mostly forestry road and highway driving.

I'm from the midwest US so when you call Canada flat, I chuckle a little. Well that answers my question. I got nothing and hope your catch can helps.

Well, maybe not flat like flat flat. A couple times a day I drive one piece of freeway that maybe has an incline of 6%.

Sure glad I looked at the catch can this morning 😬. The view window it had, broke! Not sure if the plastic window broke from the pressure or heat or both. I ordered another one without the window but has a dip stick.

I dumped out the oil that was in it and just dropped it off at the lab. I’ll have the results tonight or by morning and we shall see what dirty little secrets the mist holds.

Lab results are in! (Love getting results the same day!)

3000 kms on the oil.
My initial take is that the high silicon, sodium and trace glycol is from the contamination in the manufacturing of the hose. I bought new hose. No fuel dilution.

🤣 I swear, the glycol has to be in the manufacturing of the hose. Where else would it come from? I don’t have a consumption problem, according to my last engine oil analysis…🤷🏼

I told the lab tech guy I want to see if there’s fuel vapour or water in this test.

Makes me wonder if your testing company can distinguish it between Ethylene Glycol commonly found and used it vehicle coolants vs. Propylene Glycol that is way more human safe?

I cannot see Ethylene Glycol being used by any company as a cleaning agent if their product has any means to be in a vehicles lubricated parts system.

All I know is they perform glytech tests to determine contamination
