If anything any spying is for commerce purposes, I think. As a fellow pilot, my insurance app has been tracking my 'driving' habits and in the last 3 days it has reported that I had 71 hard braking, hard acceleration, hard turns and excessive speed events. Not to mention driving 2000' above the surface of the road.

My biggest concern with a car would be the government being able to flip a switch and you are suddenly not driving anymore. Or an EMP doing the same thing.

The former is a dream some people cook up, the ramifications are unreal. It's reasons similar to why if your Jeep is stolen after a remote start and the thieves don't have the fob, and the vehicle keeps running until THEY shut it off. To just plain stop it ........ ain't gonna happen. Government doing it? Now that's truly tin foil hat territory.

the latter - there are certain forces outside of our borders who can successfully do such things.

Government has had the ability to affect braking for years now and it is 100% not difficult to do either. As for steering other then them activating one brake at a time unless you have electric steering they can't control that. Also unless you have an electric parking brake you still have that as an option.

As for the insurance it literally asks you when you sign up for sirus xm guardian if you want to send your information to your insurance company when you sign into the jeep app. So unless you opted out like I did it is sending the information.

So, which fake cop shows have you been watching? NCIS? It's among the worst on that sort of thing.

Show your sources - and proof, I don't mean web sites with forums where people say exactly what you have said.

Access to any controls such as brakes and so on, requires someone to be reasonably close, or have installed a device which allows a vehicle not that far away from messing with things over wireless connections.
These communicate via cell - and your vehicle isn't just waiting for a command to apply brakes.
It's also been explained why and how that could be a total disaster unless someone had eyes on exactly where you were and the conditions at the time.

Anyway, show your source and evidence from a legit site - maybe Edmunds, Popular Science or similar.

Sirius has no idea who my insurance company is. And they'd have to update it frequently for some people even if they knew.

It's not difficult to understand. What does on star do for the cops? It applies the brakes, kills the engine and can kill the ignition so it can't be started or moved. They can do any or all of them. There are literally news coverage as well as commercials attesting to this.

OnStar Ad

News Report

On top of that if you are a technician you know what bi directional control is. You have already proved they have that because they can do exactly that with sirus guardian, on star, etc. You think your app is the only thing with bidirectional control? You can start your engine, lock, unlock your car from a phone.

Bidirectional no name scan tool

Either you accept reality as it is or you don't.

Then we can go down the self driving app route if you want. Not the tesla but the company that uses a literal cell phone hooked into the obd2 port. Which we already established is able to be controlled remotely.

Open pilot by comma ai install

Open pilot by comma ai driving a car kinda

It's not just the tool truck brands with access any more to the network structure or the packet structure which are standardized. Everyone has access and if you think with all this information they don't have these things you are fooling yourself.

Edit: Fixed Onstar Ad link

Jeep uses Uconnect.... which is similar to Onstar (GM). So YES - you are constantly connected to Stellantis. Anytime you have the ability to press a button to summon emergency services or some other 'connected service' (without your cell phone or cell signal) - Big Brother can be watching.

When I owned a GMC Canyon and was running around on the Canyon forums..... and from what I remember, someone actually found the magical Onstar Box/controller. The thought was......the only way to be completely disconnected, was by literally pulling the plug out of that Onstar box. I don't know if anyone had the guts to actually do it - because (like our Jeeps), the vehicle would probably explode with errors and shit wouldn't work.

I honestly don't believe they're spying on you - unless the police have requested it. And I don't think they're giving our information to others (unless they get hacked). Hell.... you're more susceptible to being hacked or spied upon simply by getting on Facebook!!!

GM was literally caught collecting and selling data. TX is suing. Most of your data anywhere is being collected and sold. I have no idea how anyone doesn't believe or understand that any more. Privacy is underrated and people really need to pay more attention.

As for directly addressing your wants there is this:

News reporting on it

Darpa project manager reporting on it

Both are old. This is not new. Never been a new thing.

What’s work?
@nanook12 don’t let all the d-bags bother you that need to poke fun at you in order to feel better about themselves. Hopefully none of them raised children and didn’t teach them to behave that way towards people. I appreciated your inquiry and the real responses that have tried to offer help.
Your right, we are assholes, I’m not joking, you are absolutely right sincerely, shouldn’t poke on anybody’s question but on this…..I don’t need to poke fun to feel better, this is silly and makes zero sense in 2024, it’s just reality. Erbody has a cell phone and on that phone are apps from banking to fitness to games and music to Walmart grocery pick up. Oh sure there’s the “ask not to track” but that’s worthless, any common sense should tell us that. Some ended up here at this forum via Google maybe so yeah “they” have radar lock already. No one will ever convince big brother isn’t watching that….like a hawk(god forbid someone is watching Ben Shapiro). Then of course all the social media platforms, maybe an Alexa for dimming the lights, selecting Kenny Gs greatest or some casual listening in on random family conversations about Anthony Fauchi. Ring door bell cameras or the like, or likely any home security system. Telematics for lower insurance rates. We live in surveillance state anyway so to end up here paranoid your Jeep is in on the conspiracy is odd. Our lives are already out there for the world to see, if no one likes that fact than ditch all the tech, live like a hermit, and definitely get rid of the “007” Gladiator. Point is if someone wants to cut ties with big brother on a Jeep, go for it, not my horse and not my race, just don’t come here and think some of us aren’t going get slightly sarcastic about it, because we are being bought and sold daily, likely hourly.

OP I’m curious about this too. I watched a news report a couple weeks ago about a lady that had her car insurance double on her. The insurance company told her to check her lexis nexis report. She requested a copy under the fair credit reporting act and it was 600 pages of her driving style. Hard braking, speeding, acceleration etc. she had a new Chevy Camaro and it was logging everything and sending it to Lexi’s nexis who in turn sold it to her insurance company.

It's always been the insurance apps that tracked my data. "Don't forget to download and install our app for a 10% discount." Sold myself out every time.

Just deny the app access to everything not needed. It alleviates some of it.

TK's Garage is proof you can have a successful YouTube channel by only reading others people published content with no original content other than expressing an opinion of what one has just read.
