I wonder what the 5th wire is on that connector? I have check both the schematics for the tailgate lock and the center brake light and only found 4 pin assignments for that connector. Two for the tailgate lock/unlock and power/ground for the brake light.

I assume you bought the vehicle as new? It almost makes me think your Gladiator was a test mule for something

Mine also has the wires for the remote tail gate lock. There are five wires in the cluster and also the cable for the camera.

I'll go by there to have the dealer take a look.

Yep...forgot the tailgate lock. I was spent when I entered that note.

Ok I looked again and there is only 4 wires. The wht/dg is cut and it goes to the red on the device in the shrink sleeve then the yellow connects to the wht/dg at the tail gate side and the black is connected to the bk/gy. So they cut the wire from the connector to the tail gate and ran it into the device and then reconnected it via the yellow wire and that puts the device inline with the switch output. What a crappy way to do this! How many pennies could it have cost to make a connector to do this?

I wish they had put mine in like the alternate method shows... I may move it, I can't stand it just dangling. Also, If I red this correctly, it was dealer installed..... hmmmm
Did the selling dealer push some safety add on package? Only other thing is the selling dealer might have got it in on trade transfer from another dealer that put it in unbeknownst to them.

No they didn't try to add anything and the car came directly from Stellantis... I don't see any mention of it on the window sticker unless it's a part of either the Technology Group or Convenience Group...

Yeah, that is not OEM in any way, shape or form.

One look at the picture in the original post is all it takes to determine it's some type of aftermarket gizmo, installed by a real hack.

Larry-D in post #10 said his '21 had one as well. I wonder if Jeep sent these with the vehicles to be dealer installed? One way to find out is for you to check and see if your center brake light flashes. If it does, then it is mounted either where mine is located, or it's in the tail gate and connected there.

I get that. The OP was infering a couple times like it came straight to him from Stellantis that way, which is improbable.
