I know people’s preferences are unique, but I’m having a hard time deciding between a 2022-2023 used diesel overland (for my uses a better choice than other trims), which can be had for $32-38k with under 30k miles on it without hunting far, and a new 2024 Sport S with no miles on it, but nearly no extras, for $40k (ish; the quick order packages vary, but there are some for sale $39-44k without hunting). Seems a good way to save some money for upgrades. Adding to this, if they release bikini pearl for this trim (vs holding it for a higher level), which for me is my favorite color, I switch to “get the teal one”. But if I go to max tow sport S for $45k ish, in bikini, it feels too much compared to a pre-owned loaded 22-23 diesel, even with airbags and the screen and grille in the new ones, and my “always wanted that color” (this will be my fourth Jeep). I plan to hold until electric or PHEV comes into practical and affordable form, so guessing 7-10 years.
I don’t know what I’m asking for help with— perhaps it’s permission? ha
Anyone else in my situation find a way out? I won’t buy until the “fate” of bikini “late 2024” and the 2025 updates are announced, but I’m trying to get ready for a black older one if it comes to pass I can’t get bikini (eg, they announce it on the crazy pricey ones, or have it on a new 4xe that’s $70k etc). That way if they announce it next month, I can say “time to buy!” and be ready cause I’ll have been following the market and finding the ones for sale. (My car needs a new exhaust and I’m hoping it doesn’t fall off or get me a ticket before I trade it in as-is, it’s old enough that wouldn’t matter.)
I’d go 0% on the new one just because it’s cheaper in periods of inflation, why spend the cash, but id cash buy the older one or at least most of it.
