Hey folks,
So it doesn't appear that an official Powerbrake thread exists so I figured why not start one...
Let's just get this out of the way, yes this is a FRONT only Big Brake kit for $2,700 (at the time of posting this thread).
I just got done installing the Stage 1 Front Kit on my 2020 JTR and I'm blown away by the quality of everything included. There's not one thing missing from the kit to do the install, including the paper instructions. On that topic, the instructions are insanely clear and do not miss a single detail. Really makes installation super simple. You can get the full details here = https://powerbrakeglobal.com/street-trail-x-line-1
Like I mentioned, installation is straight forward and the only "modification" required is to remove the (3) 10mm bolts and OEM dust shield OR trim the dust shield to clear the rotor if you want to retain it. I also removed the included control arm bracket from the SS brake hose (just clipping 2 zip ties for removal) as my Synergy lower control arms do not have mount stud provisions.
After installation, the bleeding process was simple. I chose the (2) person pump/bleed method with the truck in the "ON", not RUN position to get the fluid quickly flowing thru the caliper. After 99% of the fluid and air bubbles were thru the caliper I followed it up with a pneumatic pump bleed just to finish it off. My pedal throw seems to feel even better than stock. The calipers were designed to maintain OEM pedal feel despite the much larger volume of fluid in there. Just for reference, when I did the 4Runner caliper upgrade to my FJC the pedal throw was slightly longer with the bigger calipers. Way back in my Mustang days I remember having to swap out brake boosters, master cylinders and proportioning valves to try to get the "right" feel. None of that with the Powerbrake kit!
I'm following Powerbrake guidelines for break in and re-bleed since I'm only about 30 miles into the install. So far though, I'm impressed and there's enough Tacoma/Tundra guys out there running these to vouch for the massive increased stopping power. I feel like they are becoming more popular with the JT overland crew as well.
Wheel fitment has not been verified for all Jeep wheels out there, but I can tell you that they do NOT fit AEV Borahs as the offset and b/s are insufficient without a 1.5" wheel spacer. I believe more of the JT people have switched to either Method 701/702/703's (my wheel is a 703) with +0mm offset and 4.75"bs to fit these.
Feel free to add to this discussion or ask questions.
close tolerances but 100% clearance around the hub/spoke/wheel weight areas
