My absolute nightmare Jeep Gladiator Experience over the last 20 months

The pepblem is that there is nothing worse than some idiot naysayer who's main purpose is to blame the user...that is what you have done and I'm.sick of it.

Users don't come on these forums so you can grandstand about your apparent mechanical knowledge...especially when the individuals you are grandstanding to are well educated I hold a bachelor degree, and are also well experienced in industries such as 15 years in runnig my own earthmoving business.

I accept that you have been a mechanic for a long time...I have no prpblem with that, but deflate yourself a bit because by and large, it's the failures of the jeep mechanics who have caused the nightmare problems with my car!

Point and example...losing the transmission breather valve off the top of the breather hose after installing a new engine.

On my end all of the issues have been above board.

All of the issues with the car are legitimate and none of it has been caused by abuse.

The only parts replaced on the Gladiator that were not warranty related are:

1. Rhs front cv rubber boot (a stick went through this out 4wding). This was at my own cost and I never asked for warranty on that part.
2. All engine oils used including when the water pump was replaced, and when cylinder heads were removed, and again when oil pump failed (I shouldn't have been asked to pay for oil in those cases however I paid without complaining.)
3. I paid for 2 of the 6 O2 sensors that have been replaced in the last 12 months
4. I purchased handbrake shoes and brake pads

Dude, chill out. Shadowspapa, and others here, are trying to suggest things to look at based on experience. I don’t care how many degrees you have, you’re not an expert on everything. My eldest daughter has the same attitude. She has a degree in experimental psychology, and thinks she is the smartest person who ever lived, and won’t listen to anyone else whenever she has a problem with something. I totally understand your frustration, and that the “mechanics” screwed your vehicle up. I’d be pissed too. There’s no excuse for that. That’s why I do all of my own repairs, unless it’s a warranty issue. Even then, I have little faith in the dealers mechanics. I bought a new Bronco back in ‘84. 3 months later it was in for a leaky rear main seal. When I picked it up a couple of weeks later, I noticed a thumping from underneath. I pulled over to check, and they hadn’t tightened the drive shaft. I’ve never trusted another mechanic since. Not saying it’s anything like what you have been through with this, your situation is definitely screwed up. I truly hope you get this corrected soon. I retired from a BMW plant, doing repair work for over 22 years. I have started to make a few suggestions myself. However, after seeing some of your replies, I have refrained from offering any ideas.

does anyone know what the retail cost is for the two front axle seals?

Ive just rang mmy local jeep dealership and they are quoting me $800 AUD ($534 USD) for the two front LHS($300 AUD) and RHS($500 AUD) seals!

That seems outrageously expensive for two seals.

That's not a bad price for what they have to remove. Rotors, calipers, wheel bearing, axles. I'm not sure if they have to remove the carrier or not. Been a while (years) since I worked on a Dana 44.

Do your Service Advisors make a commission on service work? I know mine do in Canada. I don’t know what the %age is but that’ll boost the price a bit and then there’s the other “fees” dealerships add on because it’s fun, feels good to them, the coffee pot has to be full, lights have to stay on, salaries paid and and …. sheesh…. Ya, realistically, you should pay half that price somewheres else. $20 for seals if you pick up and do yourself, a case of beer, some YouTube ‘how to’ vids and call it fun times and done.

You got that right. If it includes install I'd be more than happy, however, this was not from service department, it was spare parts...my understanding is that was supply only.

Maybe the dealership is going under and they need to save themselves on the last sale. I’ve heard for a while that they don’t make much on vehicle sales, profits are largely made on service and parts.

I found the Mopar parts...no where near the price I was quoted. It was roughly about $150 USD for rhs... a lot less than $500 Australian.

I'm doubtful they will do this under warranty and to be honest, one can't blame Jeep for this. I'd suggest mine has failed because the thing has been in mud, and so much mechanical repair work has been done on the car over the last 12 months, its sat around in workshops.

It just had the diff oils changed last week and the service manager said the old diff oils were sludgy. I asked whether or not it was water that caused it and they didn't think so...but I'm thinking if I've now got a leaking oil seal and the old oil was sludgy...that suggests to me the seal must have been at compromised at some point recently...just that it has not leaked outwards at all until now.
Now that I think of it...could it be that the diff breather is somehow blocked and that has blown the seal? (I need ro have the mechanics check this)

Parts guy said one seal is two weeks away and the other seal has waiting list and no ETA.
