Slider with step functionality

I wish it was a "Buy once Cry once" type of thing, but that has not been my experience. Within the first year after I put them on the motor on the driver's side had to be replaced ... gears were stripped. The following year the same thing.

While Rock Slide did provide the replacement motors at no cost, it cost around $300-400 to have it replaced, each time. I believe there is something wrong with the driver's side step. When the step is extended, the step moves quite a bit as if it isn't fully bottomed out against the stops. This was true when they were ordinally installed new, true with the first motor replacement, and the same with the replacement this year. I feel that much movement is putting undue stress on the gears when I'm entering/leaving the truck. I'm a hefty guy, closing in on 285 lbs. but the steps should handle that weight with no issues.

I mentioned to this installers again this year, they said if the springs were adjusted any further the steps would not fully retract.

The initial year I did a fair amount of trail riding but generally 7 rating or less. This year there were no trails but the JT was towed behind the motorhome for an 11K mile trip to Canada and Alaska and back.

When it goes, the step stays down or only move a few inches.

I did call the company but was deferred to sending an email, no real assistance on the phone.

Do you have the Gen 3 or their Gen 2 steps?

I am completely new to Jeeps and after 6 months of ownership I’m finally ready to get some rock slider/ sidesteps to satisfy my wife and daughters’ wishes. I’ve found these two items on Amazon that fit more the step requirement but look decently sturdy.
Anybody have any experience with either of these or have a strong opinion to stay away?
They both mount to the frame and pinch seem.

These don’t have a platform that would be good for say washing the top of the jeep, but adding some skateboard tap to the top of these makes them into great steps.

IF you found a way to seriously damage them (next to impossible imo) the shell is replaceable instead of replacing the entire bolt on or weld on side. These are from SAVVY Offroad.

Hello all just installed a 3.5 lift with 37s on my 21 Rubicon. Looking for suggestions for some sort of rock slider that also doubles a step without hanging low. I had my eyes set on the Rock Slide Eng. power steps for a long time but they are not in the budget right now. At one time Rustys had a good looking dual prupose set but I can not longer find it on their site, and also Quadratec had a pair called the Brute Strength steps that looked nice but they didnt seem to stick around very long after they came out and then disappeared.

Ultimately I love the power step approach but due to cost and almost being winter Im not sure I would be able to get to installing them.

A few things I considered when making my choice. How easy are they to clean out? How heavy are they? Will they always function regardless of the situation, damage or weather (ie: ice or hardened mud). Therefore I chose rock sliders from RockHard. They were far less expensive than the RSE. I chose the “angled up version” and put a strip of grip tape along the top rail for a better grip on the step. The RSE would annoy me by opening and closing every single time I opened the door to grab something I forgot. My buddy has them on his JT and his wife hates that they bang her shins when reaches in for things. I have no regrets.

Yikes thats not good for the price you pay for them. What climate do you live in, Im up here in MI where the roads get salted and dirt put down on the winter roads. I am having nightmares just thinking about the motors and internals going bad

Yeah I'm installing a Metalclock Gamechanger 4.5" kit and my wife threw a shit fit.........so I had to bite the bullet and buy the RSE's.........$2600 later. They arrive on Monday.

Lol I have a step with a rope for my wife 4.5in lift with 40s. It's not worth going RSI I get to see boobies jiggle every time .

I'm in SW WI. That said, for a good portion of the winter we generally take the motorhome towing the JT south. You do need to wash the mechanisms and lubricate periodically. I haven't had any issues with the salt impacting the motors as the motor and gears are in a sealed unit. My problem has been stripping of the gears in the sealed unit. Also, the step retracts into the slider unit so the accumulation of ice and snow on the steps is lessened when compared to other steps that retract but not inside of a unit.

For onlookers -
RSE power steps attach to the frame and to the lower rocker panel pinch weld area. I'm a bit over 200 pounds (much to the dismay of my wife) and they don't even flex when I climb on them either to get in or out, or standing on them for washing things.

I've yet to see any real dirt inside mine - and I travel on roads they drop millions of pounds of sand and grit on, as well as I think they own half of all of the salt mines in the USA.
The only real dirt is on the outside, or on the top of the retractable part from my muddy or dirty boots/shoes. I extend them, wash things off, let them dry, apply more silicone spray and they are good to go. This coming March will mark 2 years and 2 winters with them.

Ace Engineering part# J0054318 was designed to fit-up with the factory Rubi Rails and Texturized Black is the color to match the factory Rubi Rails. Installation requires removing the 3 body bolts and normally takes about an hour.
