Hey guys-
I am just returning from a 42 day trip across the Sahara Desert in Algeria and Tunisia and wanted to share my opinions of the BFG KO2's that were in 5 of the 6 vehicles in our team.

Unfortunately there were no Jeeps on this trip and frankly the Gladiators would not have made it if for no other reason than the fuel requirements to travel in the remotest areas are more than the Jeep can handle (we carried 270 liters of diesel as an example)

Anyway I'm a big fan of Toyo's and one of the rigs had them but the rest had KO2's.

We didn't have one tire failure in over 5000 miles of hard driving and that was amazing to me. In every other trip in Africa we had multiple failures, usually with General tires.
More to come shortly..

A couple of notes..

All the vehicles had the same tire size on 16" wheels. This would
Make it easier to swap should that have been necessary.
They were also "C" rated as well. I assumed they would be E rated given how heavy we were but they preferred C rated due to their ability to flex easier...

Sheesh, And all I want to do is go to Tizer Lake five minutes to the trailhead from home and am a bit concerned... But at least I have KO2's on the truck...

Wow they even drove across the Mediterranean? Impressive. Makes me feel pretty good about my own KO2s making it to the grocery store.. 😄

For real though....very impressive. That had to be a hell of a hot sandy drive.

The first two weeks were dangerously hot. We saw temps over 50 degrees C (over 122 F). Trying to dig out our stuck vehicles in the very soft sand almost put one of our members in the hospital as she was showing signs of having heat stroke, but fortunately we had 2 doctors with us who had meds to help her.

But getting back to the KO2's we were running as low as 10 psi on some of the real soft stuff and were worried about having the tires come off the rim when we were diagonal to the slope but the tires came through with shining colors.
I will have to say that two of the vehicles had brand new tires and the rest were at least 90% in their tread wear so that helped tremendously.

Is there a tire review?
My apologies for setting the stage as most of the members here have never driven on anything remotely as difficult as this...

the KO2's exceeded everyone's expectations in some of the roughest terrain you could drive on including very sharp rocks, deep sand and very steep terrain.
5 Stars!

......and to think. I took off my KO2's with only 1000 miles on them and put on Toyo"s. I love my Toyo's.

I have to say that I’m with you.

I bought a set of KO2’s for my foreman a couple of years ago and they didn’t last very long so that was the basis for me trying Toyo’s and I have been very impressed in the two trucks I have them on.

The performance of the KO2’s in the Sahara led me to write about them here. I still plan on buying Toyo’s for my trucks.
