I can’t find the products that I am looking for, but I’m certain that I’m just not looking in the right way. I would like to purchase either 488 or 513 Dana Spicer gears for my Rubicon.

Do I need a rebuild kit with those gears as well? Or just the front and rear gears? Can someone link me to exactly what I need?

Finally, would it be less expensive for a shop to order these for me as part of their install?

I believe you want the Rebuild Kit, NOT the Master Kit.
Pinion seals and such. There are some shims in it too.

If you can find a shop that will let you bring your own, then there won't be a markup on the parts, BUT they may just roll that into the labor.

I would advise against ordering your own gears. I bought my own parts with the plan of doing the regear myself. Plans changed however, and most places I called refused to use customer supplied parts. Dana Spicer gears are great though, that's what I bought.

If you supply the gears/kit and there is a problem after install, is it a problem with the parts you supplied or a problem with the installation? Who is paying to diagnose and fix it? If the shop is in charge of parts + labor, there is no question whose responsibility it is.

I'm in the same boat. I asked at a respected local gear shop and they told me labor is $1,200. He was happy to install whatever gear set I brought him, but warned me he only warranties his labor and not products brought by customers to his shop. He also told me I didn't need to buy a 'master install kit' or anything other than the ring and pinions themselves as his shop has plenty of shims, bearings, etc. Why would I buy my own ring and pinions instead of having the installation shop provide them? Well, Black Friday, I guess. I am hoping to save a few hundred $$$ buying a set of Revolution 4:88 gears on Black Friday. Plus I kinda trust the local shop to do the install right based on their reputation in the local 4X4 community.
