Hey all,

I had a question for you all. After installing my Tazer a couple weeks ago, I have noticed that when I turn the Jeep off, but still while running on accessory power, the radio volume adjusts and the station changes (Sirius XM) without input from me. Volume is nothing drastic, and radio station +/- one channel.

Had anyone else noticed this or something similar. I won't be removing my Tazer, just more of a curious situation.

Yes, and most will post something about the tazer process was installed improperly…. 🙄 mine has done it through several updates- marrying in marrying….
Just an annoyance I have learned to deal with…. Some days it does drive me nuts though.

Well, I'm glad it isn't just me.

Thanks for the reply!

Getting a new Tazer is certainly a learning experience. The Owners manual is horrible….. I’ve written my own notes that make sense ‘to me‘ and I’m constantly updating the notes.

Everytime I want to take it out for dealer visits…..I have to refresh my memory and watch videos to make sure I do the process properly. I’ve had it out twice and I’m still not confident in my own memory.
When I have it out, I always hook it up to the home computer to get updates (even if there isn’t anything new).

But yea…if you don’t follow the steps exactly… it affects all sorts of things.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the instructions are piss poor. I've only done the tire size with my Tazer but want to do other options as well but am damn afraid to try since it's so frustrating!

For the most part… I only use it for the Auto Start Stop defeat….& Kill3Honk….. I’d love to do the Hood Alarm but nobody seems to know how long the alarm (honking & lights) will continue to blare until it resets. I’ve contacted Z Automotive - they told me “It’s based on your factory alarm” - Well shit…What does that mean? I don’t have a factory alarm outside the standard equipment it comes with. 🤷‍♀️ Tried searching but couldn’t find anything (of course).

I haven’t had the guts to TEST it ….… That honking would drive me crazy even for 2 minutes……😂 So, I’m not using the hood alarm! 😉

I'm still scared to even plug my tazer in, but when I get home it needs to happen. I'm on factory halogen settings but have Led fog lights on a factory steel takeoff and it looks like a damn strobe light every time I turn them on. I'm also hoping it will fix my reverse light issue on my new oracles.

I get periodic volume fluctuations since my tazer install. I've troubleshot every way I know how, but it still happens from time to time. Would love to hear a solution, if anyone has found one. Ive seen multiple threads on this topic, seems like plenty of us have this issue. Ive also contacted tazer, no help. Otherwise LOVE my tazer and all the fearures.

Same problem here, volume jumps up sometimes and it forgets EQ settings.

Here’s my two cents (probably worth more like a dollar). I don’t have a Tazer, but…I have plugged in the security gateway bypass extension cable to run my THINKDRIVER OBD2 reader/scan tool and when I do a diagnostic, it brings up codes that point to a communication problem with the RADIO and TCM (transmission control module) and HVAC/AC communication problems AND also when that extension cable is plugged in for long periods of time, (concerning lost communication with the radio) when I’m listening to it at a specific volume and then shut off the vehicle, the next time I jump in and go, that instrument cluster with the radio on/off, volume, traction control, heater/AC etc…. doesn’t respond for at least 40 seconds. Even when I jump in and start the truck and turn on the headlights, that cluster won’t light up for at least 40 seconds.

So, I had recently bought the FCA diagnostic license that gives me full diagnostic abilities through THINKCAR which means,…I no longer need that bypass extension cable and guess what??! (I think you all know what I’m going to say)

When I unplugged the extension bypass cable back last December, I can now do the diagnostic and just use the OBD2 normal port, I no longer have all these communication issues.

Just saying.

Dude…I applaud your ability to install & understand the functions of a flux capacitor….. and how it reacts with the vehicle.😂

But damn….. My head hurts just reading all that. 😳🤣

So…. what you’re saying is…. these jeeps have ‘commuunication problems’ and/or a delayed communications problem regardless of what you have plugged in?

🤣 Sorry…. sounds a lot like my employer…. I don’t have a clue and neither do they!!

Hahaha….sometimes I amaze myself with what I find out when I fall into certain holes. What I think I’m saying is this, those using a tazer or anything else that requires the extension bypass cables, develop “communication issues” and then wonder “what the heck” but haven’t figured out yet that bypassing the security gateway by using that cable causes it.

So, with my example, I lived with those communication issues not knowing any different until I bought the FCA diagnostic license through THINKCAR. THINKCAR has an agreement with FCA that any and all of there diagnostic tools can be used to fully diagnose or “unlock” all diagnostic features FCA has to offer, but only through THINKCAR.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I’ll put my nose out there and say that TASER or JSCAN or any other diagnostic dongles out there don’t have this relationship with FCA so everyone is forced to “bypass” that security gateway with the extension cable, thereby that thing is causing the communication problems.

I’m really sorry I speak in details,…there’s so many😑

What is this extension cable you're talking about?

If I’m not mistaken, the taser needs to be plugged into this cable and is plugged up under the dash near the OBD2. So two connections are unplugged (security gateway, FCA firewall to discourage owners doing deep scans and such) and the cable is plugged in their place.

The extension cables are not needed when using the Tazer. You unplug the two cables that are plugged into the SGW module. and plug them into the Tazer. The SGW module connectors are left empty. No other cables are needed.

But since the two SGW cables are a PITA to unplug and plug back in, they make an extension cable for those two connections that can be plugged into the SGW module and left hanging and not used. That is until you want to remove the Tazer. Then you can just plug the two original cables (just removed from the Tazer) into the extension ones (which are hanging and easily accessible) so you don't have to try to plug them back into the SGW module each time you remove the Tazer since they can be difficult to connect back to the SGW.. This allows you to easily install and remove the Tazer for dealer visits. This is the extension cable, not what is shown in red above, which appears to be a SGW bypass cable to be able to use OBD2 scan tools. The Tazer does not use the OBD2 port.
