Agreed. There isn’t any scuffing of the paint.
If Ziebart aren’t willing to fix the problem I would call Rhino corporate to force the installer’s hand. The warranty pdf on the website isn’t super helpful; it says that bubbling, peeling, cracking of the liner after install is covered but doesn’t say anything about a bad install.

Rhino Liner seems like a top notch product and I almost went with it but instead did the Line-X premium liner. I guess a pro for Line-X is that their official shops/installers and are under their brand and aren’t third parties, so no dealing with two policies.

That area is prone to get scuffed up from sliding things out of the bed, especially because of that gap between bed and tailgate. If they can’t do it without making it worse, then they should remove it and redo the tailgate completely… unless they mean that completely redoing it would also make it worse.
Bingo!

No scuffing of the extant paint.

Best hope that all surfaces are not like that.

No scuffing, the Liner will peel up with the tape, and may more may peel up later.

I thought the initial taping was wrong but this makes complete sense for how they missed it. It was taped correctly, but then this piece came off during the tape peeling. And then (obviously) no inspection afterwards.

As Aleph stated in his post ...................

My Bold.

My Red.

The edges are VERY critical to application due to traffic abrasion and peeling.

No sand scuffing = NO STICK!

Look closely at all ending edges, this was an easy place to hit well with sanding.

If other more difficult places were missed like this, you may have looooong term heartache.

Good luck!

If no sanding is the case, then removing and redoing the liner wouldn’t be as hard of a job and the whole “can’t fix it without making it worse” is BS.

Except instead of just the tailgate it probably needs to be the entire bed, lol. If the sanding was actually done but inconsistently, then the lining might be a nightmare to remove. Now I’m suspecting they do know how exactly they messed up.

One could maybe test it with a light chisel and see how easily the liner in the bed chips off.

You are stuck in a hard spot. That really is a product that has to be done right the first time as any redo or repair is going to either look like ass or the removal process for a total redo is so invasive to the underlying paint that it will be a issue later down the road unless the treat area was properly sealed with a primer/paint coat again.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm pretty positive they scuffed it before applying. It came up in discussing the process beforehand. I think they either just taped it badly or intentionally missed the area because that's how they thought it was supposed to be (after I complained, the guy sent me a pick off of THIS forum, where he showed someone else's job and it was similar. Maybe they were using that image as their go-by....which is a terrible practice for a professional installer)

Here is the pic he showed.

I have a shirt that states, "Should anal retentive by hyphenated?"

I have a buddy that's far worse, when it came to the spray in liner, he wanted to see the surfaces FULLY sanded prior to the application of the coating.

He's glad he did.

Had them hit it again.

His line .... "No shine is fine".

No one will work as well on your vehicle, as well as you desire.

Good luck!

That is interesting. Maybe someone thought it was a relief for the connector passthrough cover?

my aftermarket Rhino liner went to the edge, they should repair your installation
Same here. Had a Rhino liner install done in May 2020. Mine is evenly coated throughout the bed and tailgate. There are a couple spots on the bed where some dripped and it looks splotchy but I have a bed rug covering it so no biggie. OP's needs warrantied. I'd go to another installer to get their opinion.

FWIW, I have done my own bedliner, both herculiner and a duplicolor product. You want scuffing of paint, clear to metal isn't a bad thing. I did a bad application the first time I did my Ram back in 2010. I wire-wheel/angle ground the whole bed surface down to metal (hardly any paint left anywhere) and had Rhino liner cover it. No rusting, no problems, 14 years later it still looked great when I traded it on the Gladiator. Rough surface is how the stuff sticks.

If you look closely at the bad spot you can see a slight circular imprint as if something pushed it up and they they were Attempting to hide their Fuck up!

I just this week had a rhino liner installed in my 2024 Mojave. I got it back and was surprised to see what I believe to be a bare spot at the front edge of the tailgate. It looks super weird and I see it as an eye sore. At first I thought it was due to clearance with the electronics, but have seen no evidence that it is necessary.

My liner:

Same spot OEM liner:

The guys at Ziebart are defending their work, but I think it's messed up. I looked online, as well as at an OEM bed liner at a dealership, and all but one liner job I saw had full coverage to the edge of the tailgate.

Anybody else able to share their thoughts or opinions? Or even better share pics of your aftermarket liner (specifically of the gap when the tailgate is open)?

***Edit: and let me know the brand of liner if you have pics or info. THANKS!

Thanks!
Looks Like they did not scuff up the section enough for the lining to adhere to it. they should peel a bit back, scuff of the area and re-shoot it
