ugghhhh. 5 years and 50,000 miles and Yukon Gears 5.13 failed. No warning, driving to work and noise started. Towed it to the shop. I'll share pics of the diff once I get them but it sounds bad - might be going with a new/used complete axle.

I sent back some Yukon parts after seeing the made in China tag on their gears. Pass! Plenty of other gear brands offer South Korean or USA made gears.

Good call. These were Covid parts and at the time supposedly had a good reputation. I see now that was all smoke and mirrors. I’ll use Spicer - USA made next time.

I also fell victim to the good reputation. But seemingly the only people who rave about Yukon are YouTubers who mysteriously have Yukon flags and merch hanging in their garages.

I live chatted with Yukon and they have a laughable 1 year warranty against defects. You can buy an extended warranty… another red flag.

Here is a pic of the pinion gear that detonated. No excuse for this.

Well you lucked out getting 50k miles.

The set of Yukons I had installed by an authorized seller/installer..........I only got 11k miles before the pinion gear took a shit. F' Yukon Gear and Axle. I replaced with a Richmond set

On a Dana 44, some believe the pinion gear is too small for long term durability in ratios above 4.88.

Interesting to hear you say that. I was told I was worried about nothing on this forum when I said I was worried about pinion input speed as the justification for why I went with 4.56 gears as opposed to 4.88s or 5.13s

I’m not sure how I feel about this assertion, but it’s been around for a while, and I can see the logic. With that said, I installed 5.38 gears in my son’s Gladiator (his choice) to help with towing his small travel trailer, so I am curious to see how these hold up for the long term. He is very easy on the throttle, so if they fail, it won’t be because of aggresive wheeling.

Not sure what direction I will go in my 2024 yet. Since I have the knowledge and equipment to install new gears, it’s really only a Saturday of my time and a few dollars, but since I will not routinely tow anything, I want to see how I feel about the 4.10 gears after the lift and 37s. I’ve been running 4.10 gears with lift and 37’s in my JK 4 door manual for almost a decade, and don’t have any complaints. Hmmmm….
