Need advice, and consolation...
My baby started missing little over a month ago, got the generic P0300 code, so thought it might be fuel delivery/spark, changed out injectors/plugs (one was fouled)- but the code remained..
Took it to the dealer and well... (copy the link and watch the video...)

Cams look worn, but everything else? I need advice- I think putting a "used" engine in is nuts considering I'll likely have the same issue again...
There is only 72K on this engine, I've been good to it.... kinda at a loss for words...

it's done... so..... ya...
Why are they saying you need a whole new engine? A lot of us were able to just replaced cams and lifters. I have 49k miles after the cam replacement.
Edit: I actually the video.

the video says he wasn't sure if there was more damage to the engine.. so I guess that's why?
I wasn't having any issue at all except at load (over 5K rpm)- I'd be happy just to run it till it crokes at this point...

That is pretty extensive teardown for a diagnosis. What did that cost you if you do not mind sharing?

Josh would you mind sharing what weight oil you used and what was your oil change interval?
Thanks.

My opinion:

The cam that has the 1mm+ groove in two lobes is shot. I would wager its the right intake, but that's not clear from the video.

Replace it, replace all the lash adjusters ("lifters"), replace the rocker arms. If it is indeed the right intake, Jeep sells a kit with all the parts except the lash adjusters. Those are $5 a piece tho. The right intake cam is basically a wear-item on these motors unfortunately.

The other cam has a few scratches on it, it is fine.

Change the oil.

Call it done.

Again... my opinion without actually seeing the motor.

Zapper sounds like sound advice. According to the video, there is concern about further damage from metal in the oil. I'd weigh the cost vs. risk and try to fix what you have. Never had much luck with junkyard engines. The video was hard to see, but there doesn't appear to be much of a ridge at the top of cylinder. What does a long block cost vs. repairing what you have? Used doesn't really seem to be a good choice; it could be worse than what you have.

Agree, makes no sense putting a used identical engine in at $10k...

Would you happen to have a web link to the kit? Or even the Mopar part no.?
