^ was more my point. Save the music straight to your phone and then carplay or android auto take care of the rest. The SD card just feels like an extra step. Most new laptops and desk tops don't even have SD card slots anymore. It's dying tech at best. Reminds me of a thread on the JL forum on where someone was trying to add a CD player....why?

Mine is a 2020, and i like my older music( and no commercials ) The usb ports will play through your head unit, but to each his own.
You can also upload your music to youtube music for free and use that to listen to your music from your phone instead of the usb drive and it doesn't take up any space on your phone.

I just connect my phone via bluetooth and play music from there. Maybe that may be an option?

I use high resolution FLAC files on a good USB stick (PNY 128GB - USB 3.0 spec - available at Amazon $21.99 for a two pack) formatted in FAT32.

I had an issue when I tried to load folders with music in them on a USB. Once I loaded individual tracks on the USB I had no problems. My current play list on the USB has about 300 songs.

I use the aux USB connection in the center console.
I have over 900 songs loaded on a USB , no folder structure and it works fast and with no issues.

Back in 2013 I had an Apple iPod Mini and it had all my ripped CDs on it. I would just leave it plugged into the USB in the center console oh my JK and go. I think I had to put the iPod onto USB mode? Anyway, these days I just use Apple Music and have it automatically download any music I add to the library so when I’m out of cell reception I don’t have to worry about not being able to play music. I’m sure other services have the same feature. To each their own! Let the man live his best life. 😀

You guys make it so difficult. I just pay for a discounted SiriusXM Music subscription. I have a huge selection to choose from, based on my mood, and it also plays 24/7 in the house through the app on my tablet.

Maybe when I retire, I can transfer my large CD collection to USB and cancel the SiriusXM subscription.

I do this too. I cancel until they will give me the $4.99/month subscription each year. But nothing beats my "finely curated" personal playlists! 😂

A friend of mine signed up for XM when it started up got a locked in rate for his father, long time friend from his school days and himself, flat rate yearly.
I use a few Amazon music, Pandora and a USB drive along with what I've got on cell phone though Bluetooth.

I've tried this so many times that I refuse to go back. People claim different brands of USB sticks work better than others. Bullshit! Every time I've tried I get a music salad with no rhyme or reason as to "why" Uconnect chooses to play in that order. I have tried different sticks and different programs but the result is always the same. Music salad! I make my own playlists on Spotify, never fails.

I use a 256GB SanDisk Ultra Fit USB and can load my entire itunes library onto it (roughly 82GB worht of music), and have it organized perfectly with uconnect on my 22 Sport S.

The USB NEEDS to be formatted to fat32. I still use Itunes to this day (can't give up my Mp3 library and go to streaming) and basically you need to load the files onto the USB by individualized .mp3 songs. I literally drag the entire library from my itunes and drag it to the USB.

Uconnect then takes the data from your itunes .mp3 file and organizes into whatever you want (artists, albums, etc) when you load the USB.

There are several threads on this with USB sticks. I would suggest finding and reading those. The biggest issue seems to be with the size of the media. The limitation is in the head unit capabilities. Other sizes can work, but 8gb with fat32 or exfat formatting appears to provide the best overall results.
See recent post - but I use a 256GB SanDisk Ultra Fit USB and can load my entire 81GB itunes library onto it.

I have a degree in computer science. I understand the differences in formatting and the different programs to load the music. No this doesn't make me a "every computer" genius, but it conveys some understanding of inner workings and yet it never works. I have 2 other vehicles that it takes nothing to load music in any format, or stick, in any order and the results are always the same. It always works. Other vehicles, works every time (Nissan-daughther, Mazda-wife). Jeep Uconnect sucks!
Spotify? I just tell it what I want to hear and it works every time. Out of connection range? Download it which your doing anyway.

Hmm... Weird. I don't have a degree in computer science - and I'm not saying I'm a genius - but I am able to use the above USB disk in my JT, along with my wife's 21 Grand Cherokee L.

I see you have a 21 Sport S (I have a 22 Sport S). 7 inch uconnect head unit?
