My GCBs are in the top hole. A Jeep speciality shop in Fenton, MI. (Unlimited Offroad) installed my AEV lift. The guy explained to me why GCBs and not control arms. Also explained to me why the top hole. Admittedly, I do not know a lot about newer straight axles (first Jeep), but what he explained to me made perfect sense.
I absolutely love the way my JT drives and I cannot imagine it driving any better than it does and as fast as it will allow me to.
I will add that kept my tires on the narrowest end of the spectrum and on wheels that have the proper hub bore size (71.5).
35x10.5x17 on 8.5” wide 0 offset Methods.
255/85R17 on base Mojave wheels and 1.5” wheel spacers. Tire “poke” damn near exact as the 0 offset Methods.
Just thought to share this here, is all.

I am Curious as to what you were told about GCBs over LCAs. I was thinking about the BDS 2" lift LCAs.

I could not even begin to tell you. It was July 2022 and while it started off sounding like French to me, he ended up dumbing it down for me and that is when it clicked. Hah!

🤷🏻‍♂️

Well I might get some GCBs instead of the LCAs.

Helpful. I was genuinely curious as well.

Yep, I'm doing the same as soon as my 35s are worn enough. Looks awesome.

I was going to go with some 35's, but after conversing with a few outstanding members of this community I was told to go 37's or I would regret it later.

I would call them and inquire. They may very well be the most reputable shop in the state. I say this being on Michigan Jeep pages and see the many mentions. They also did a 2019 4Runner TRD Pro for me, but.. irrelevant.

I live half way across the country from MI and in the mountains in the middle of nowhere. the closest "shop" to me is 175mi south in Las Vegas, so all the work on the JT is done by me and a buddy who specializes in old jeeps lol. Tape measure alignment is getting easier for me though hahaha.

I have about 130,000 miles in JK, JL, and JT on 35's and have not once had the desire for 37's, on or off road. There are always compromises.

To be honest I am still sceptical about clearance between tire and fender with 37's, but I will cross that bridge this weekend when i go out farther into the middle of nowhere. I will be TAZER flashing the new tire size and then if i can find some help I will put my overland rack back on, grab my MC fender bolts kit just in case i need to put a fender back on (local small-town PD actually cares about whether or not you have fenders) and set out for a couple days.

I think they would fit just fine, but they cost fuel economy and towing capacity. But they gain you about an inch of ground clearance. Also the heavier the tire, the more stress on suspension and drive train components. But I have not heard of any significant issues with the JL/JT. Nothing like the JK smile, which was a bent front axle tube not uncommon to 35's, which is why I ran 33's most of my JK's life and was pretty gentle on 35's when I upgraded.

I will not by any means be bashing and beating on the suspension, out in these parts we have mild-mid 2 track trails and graded dirt roads. there is the occasional outcroppings you have to wheel up. I have a buddy who only works on Jeeps, but the steel ones from 1940-1980. My JT is the only modern Jeep he has touched, and he suggested RCV's, welding the axle tubes to the diff in the rear and welding trusses on front and rear. He has a similar setup on his 78 Honcho. D44 with Chromoly shafts and trussed in the rear and RCVs and full truss in the front.

Simply to answer the question/your curiosity and coming from the professionals. Not just some random member, who admitted to not knowing… much.

Good luck (sincerely).

Thanks, this was a good thread with a lot of information that helped with my own decision. Due to some "wandering on the road" syndrome (I know, it's a Jeep thing), I asked Trail Boss in Tucson AZ to install a PSC Steering Box, Synergy Track Bar, Tie Rod and Drag Link, Metal Cloak Ballers ball joints, Mojave X springs on all 4 corners, and the AEV 2" spacer kit and GCB's. We also did Axis Linx at the same time. This looked like a great DIY project but a recent back injury is making simple things painful, hence the excellent techs working with Dan Paris at Trail Boss doing the install. I am extremely pleased with the on road handling at all speeds now and the Mojave X springs compensate nicely for the winch and metal rubicon mopar bumper up front, and the DiamondBack HD tonneau on the rear!
