Why not TALK to the dealer? Ask these questions!
Why ask those who can only speculate?
When I was looking to order a Jeep, I went to two dealers. They gave me polar opposite stories on the applicability of the employee pricing incentive. There were also other suspect issues.

So, let’s say I have a little of a trust issue.

Here, I can get some real world experience from guys who aren’t trying to profit from my inexperience.

Sometimes it’s nice to know the facts going in.

By the way, is there any merit in having multiple dealers try to make deals for the same Jeep to be transferred, or will that just create a shit show?

I haven't done it with ONE Jeep on a specific lot, but have with orders, and like Jeeps on different lots. I will literally show them other quotes. I'll either get a shrug and they walk away, or "wait, let's talk about this" reaction.
I guess you just have to try!

Just a quick thought about buying cars that may be beneficial to your situation and it keys off of something that Papa just said:
I'll either get a shrug and they walk away, or "wait, let's talk about this" reaction.
One of the most powerful tools that you have in your car buying tool belt is not wanting the car, or at least not letting the sales person know that. When you walk in gushing about the car you want and lay across the hood and say "I love you" as you caress the fenders, the sales person knows he has you and has no incentive to put much effort toward "getting you into that car today". You are hooked.

Some of the best deals I have gotten were made after I worked the price as much as I could and then said, "Yeah, I don't think so" and leaving. Within a day or two I am usually getting a call with some improved offer. Be aloof.

Now to that end, drive to the dealership that is 50 miles away and be aloof..."I don't know...I really wish it had (state options it doesn't have and you don't care that it doesn't have)...and then this dealership is so far from where I live...it'll be a pain to pick it up...yadda yadda yadda." If they don't get the price where you want it, thank them for trying and go home. Maybe you'll get that call back with a better price; but if you don't, just do what you are already contemplating and have your local dealer do a trade.

I really think you have a bargaining tool on this one that you could work to your advantage.

Bought mine at a dealer 50 miles away because they had what I wanted on the lot. Local dealer said they could not get it from them. Also, local dealer refused to service my jeep because I didn't buy it there. Wouldn't even do my free oil changes. Here we are 4 years later, and my jeep has never been to the dealer. I do all my own work and prefer it that way.

Is it easier for a dealer to transfer (intercept) a car before it arrives?

Don't count on that. The truckers have their routes. It's quite expensive to divert a transport for one vehicle, and it would have to be at the rear, last on, first off.
These don't arrive one at a time in most cases. A transport driver leaves Ohio with a load of vehicles. They'll maybe hit a couple of dealerships before they get to us, and we're about the end of their run, then they go right back to Ohio from here. They may not even be going the direction of the other dealership at all.
It's a heck of a lot cheaper to get a driver over to another dealership to drive the thing over. Or, short haul, small trailer situations.
When mine were delivered, the driver had other stops to make on the way here, and mine was one of at least 2 or 3 destined for our dealership.
For someone to have diverted the guy? Likely not even possible. Expensive at the very least.

I don’t know now how Jeep does it….but, here’s been my experiences.

The Dealerships I’ve dealt with had an allocations of vehicles on the lot. Each dealership has a different allocation (vehicles on the lot). The bigger the dealership (sales), the more vehicles they get in allocation.

If you’re interested in a vehicle at another dealership…. The two dealerships have to workout a trade. You take my allocation, you have to give me one of yours.
Dealers don’t want to be ‘short’ on their allocation. If they don’t sell their entire allocation (amount), their allocations could be reduced in the future.

Some dealerships aren’t willing to LET GO of anything…regardless of what is traded. They want to make sure what they give up ($$) is equal in value or less than what they get in return.

It has nothing to do with what you’re paying…. it’s a dealership dance and how the allocations work.

Again… this was my experiences in the past.

And right there is why some dealerships do those really deep discounts, making almost nothing at all - it's for that bit. Volume counts. It bumps them up a notch in Jeep's favor.
"but how can they do that deep discount???" - it's about favor with Jeep, allocation, priority.
They are not in it for you - it's still a dealership being selfish - they don't give a rip about you any more than an MSRP dealership. You are a number to them and you help them gain favor.
They aren't "nice guys being helpful".

Years ago a dealer swap would be free. Me, if not free, take a ride and get it yourself. May already be in your driveway by now.

Until a particular vehicle gets on the original ordering dealers lot, there is no sniping a vehicle from another dealership while in transit. You can still work a pending trade from one dealer to another, but that vehicle still has to hit the original ordering dealers lot for official delivery.

I agree….. and it makes no sense what-so-ever from a **making a sale** standpoint.

There’s nothing more frustrating (to a consumer) who’s interested in buying a vehicle - knowing there’s a truck 50 miles away at another dealership and you can’t have it. Consumers can walk…. and they’ll walk away and go buy something else (another brand).

They should jump thru hoops to keep the consumer ‘on the hook’ and try to make the sale regardless of where the vehicles are coming from or which dealership.

A sale is a sale….A vehicle manufacturer can’t make profits if they can’t their vehicles.

I share your perspective.
A couple of the dealers I’ve spoken to are in affluent areas. They didn’t seem terribly interested in making a deal. At first it seemed like they were low pressure, but it also seemed that they figured if I didn’t but it, someone else would. Is that it or had they maybe just hit their numbers for the month? Or are these Jeeps just so hot that they don’t need to deal?
