Goodwill repairs imply its out of the warranty period.
If it was me , even though this is a bad situation, I would hunt that TSBPart # up order the kit and do the repair or have another shop do the repair . The kits far less in price than alot of updrade parts.

Same for me, but different strokes for different folks.

With all the bad things im hearing about the Pentastar I will be trading in my 2023 Willys before the warranty is over. My neighbor just had the cam and rockers done on her Grand
Cherokee at 76k Km. Under warranty.
Shes getting ready to trade it in.
Havnt seen any data about what the odds are of it happening.

Far Less than 1%
Millions have no failures.
You read about failures on the internet, not the successes.
I've had several of these engines in various jeeps and would easily buy another

Buy a "good used cam" - and do all of that work for a used cam?

I'd have to be crazy desperate to do that.
More than likely, no salvage yard is going to part out a running or runnable engine. They sell them whole. Once you open them up, they aren't worth much at all to them.
You would need to grab the cam and all followers (rockers) and keep them in the correct order and not just toss them in a box and install them at random.

If i was doing something like that I'd buy a take-out from one of the businesses that does engine "upgrades" and skip a salvage yard where you have no clue what you are getting.

I’m beyond frustrated.

My 2020 Jeep Gladiator (VIN: 1C6HJTFG8LL131631) has been dealing with repeated engine issues: rough idling, flashing check engine light, and near stalling. The dealership diagnosed it as a failure of the camshafts, lifters, and internal components. This is a known and documented issue in these engines.

I’ve been dealing with this since August 2024, starting with spark plugs being replaced at a Ford dealership because I was trying anything to get the problem under control. That didn’t fix it. I then replaced coils, ran fuel treatments, changed the intake gaskets — nothing worked.

What makes this worse: Jeep already performed a recall repair for this exact issue in April 2023. They replaced camshafts, lifters, etc. That “fix” clearly failed, and the same components are now failing again.

The dealership submitted a Goodwill Repair request on June 26, 2025. I followed up with Jeep/Stellantis on July 2, and I have received NO response as of July 8. This is my only vehicle, and I’m stuck with a failing engine while Jeep refuses to respond or take responsibility.

I’m now escalating this to BBB, NHTSA, Jeep forums, and consumer protection outlets. If Jeep won’t take care of its customers, I’ll make sure the public knows what kind of service they can expect.

Jeep — do better.
I was told the following by a friend who had warranty work failure that was fixed at no cost by the dealer and also found it on the internet:
  • Mopar Parts installed by an authorized dealership typically come with a 24-month/unlimited miles warranty covering both parts and labor.

Be mindful that the grass is often not greener. It'd most likely be cheaper to keep her in most cases, between financing and sales tax the long term picture would almost certainly be a bigger bill. Trading down to a cheaper option would most likely require a used option, reliability goes out the window when you have to trust a previous owner/s.

Many other engines out there with comparable issues, that are also rare, but similar. I still stand by picking your poison so to speak and opt for the vehicle you like the most, not the one you think you can trust the most.

There is a caveat to that. If you have a warranty repair lets say at 55K miles under the 5/60K mile powertrain warranty, that repair only has 5K left of coverage.

The 24 month unlimited mileage warranty for MOPAR parts installed by the dealer is only for customer paid non warranty work.

True sounds reasonable and sounds. Me personally a used engine would be my first look.

Just purchased 2022 and had it 2 weeks to the hour before I had this failure. 2 months later and I have just picked up my 'new' jeep again and all seems good.
I was very lucky as my dealership made sure I had reliable vehicles in the mean time it is still beyond frustrating for sure.
I'd heard there was almost 15000 of the parts need to fix on backorder and while that seems so excessive, that engine is in millions of cars. I agree jeep can do better with communication bit I'm sure in there world it's a small problem.
Hope you get answers and fixed soon.

Yes, and that warranty being referred to has more text to it - and is for customer purchase situations.
If you buy a part (say, the trailer brake controller) and your Jeep has 30 months left of warranty, then you get those 30 months, not the 24 of the part, it reads "whichever is longer". There's also differences for JPPs and other situations.
