Shucks. I really don’t like how the folding top blows open at highway speed when folded back. If I get a rag top then I would probably just remove the back window and roll all side windows down and just leave the top in place. Or perhaps just get a hard top.

Do you think it will be much easier to remove than the hardtop? Functionally, it appears about the same but with more NVH. If either top is a hassle to remove from the rear, I think it may be worth thinking about the hardtop since the Freedom Panels are pretty easy on the front half. I guess the main difference is storage while it's open... Also, can the hardtop remove just the rear window and sides?

Yeah I don't think it would have been that difficult to have it fold all the way down. Bestop already does it for the 2 door Wrangler. The designers didn't want to create any interference in the bed with the top down. The top looks like its going to be small enough to be easily removed while standing in the bed. What I would like to see is a bag to roll up the sides and back and stuff it into the underseat storage.

The JT has several advantages to what was offered then on the Dakota.
1. The rear window completely removes.
2. Area between the back seat and the bed is slightly bigger than the Dakota.
3. Jeeps look normal with the soft top.

But the rods that go from the back seat to the windshield would need to go somewhere. I was thinking the top could be stored vertical along the rear edge of the door surround with the fabric at the bottom and the frame vertical - if that makes sense. But all that work to relocate the canopy fabric? Leaving it above the rear seat works. With the door surrounds Jeep uses (no surrounds on the Dakota), the top won't look out of place up there.

My friend had a Tacoma with a removable hard top (a shop cut the top off and made it re-attachable). It was pretty rad. The lack of shoulder seatbelts combined with a stupid lift and an even more stupid driver - made the truck something to check out from the outside rather than while driving.

Besides the cargo volume I like a bed for items I would rather not have in my interior such as, wet dogs, wet gear, gasoline, leaves and yard waste, etc.

Wish the soft top was more flat. Just looks funny how the soft top has a peak in the middle like a tent. I suppose if I lift it high enough it wont be as noticable..lol. As for the hard top it is very disappointing the rear window cannot pop out completely.
