I've been running 35x12.5x17 for about 3 years now with no lift/leveling setup and it has been great on our 21 mojave

Most 315/70 17s will allow using your stock wheels.. OD is still pretty close still.
I also wouldn't recommend an E rated tire unless your rig is really heavy or you wheel in the Southwest where rocks and thorns are constantly trying to rip a sidewall.
Whats the downside to E rating beside a stiffer ride and a little heavier? Curious because i pull a trailer from time to time and have considered E rating. I have a rack and water tank (4Gallon) and carry other equipment totaling 200lbs maybe.

Stiff, they don't comform to terrain aired down to reasonable levels like a C does..

If you are towing heavy, look at the inflation tables for the tires you are considering, but my 37s at 30 psi are still over the factory tires at 37psi.

E rated would be down in the mid/low 20s.

D rates are a perfect compromise for your use. I have d rated 37’s and I tow and haul. They work beautifully on and offroad. Mickey T Baja boss at.

Load range E deform quite nicely at 15psi. They are a rougher ride on pavement though.

some do, but not all. I had a set that I had to drop all the way to 10psi to get even that much wrinkle.
Not an issue if you have beadlocks, but I certainly don't want to run any lower.

I'm running the stock 285/70/17's. I also have an AEV 2" lift on it. The truck came with Falken Wildpeak M/T's and I changed those to Wildpeak A/T's with an E Load Range rating. When these wear out, I'll get some WIldpeak 35/12.5's (also with an E L/R). I don't do any "serious" rock-crawling so, with the lift, there shouldn't be a problem with the 35/12.5's but I'll double-check that just to be sure (if so, I'll install 35/11.5's instead). As to the Load Range E's, I've blown 2 tires on washboard / rough dirt roads with standard C-belting on a Ram 1500 I used to have. Even though the E-belting is a little stiffer, after those belt separations, there's no way I'd run anything but E Load Range tires on any vehicle that sees off-road conditions, at least not for how I use the vehicle.
