I might have answered my own question.

Looks like the Nitto Ridge Grapplers will work on the OEM wheels:

  • Wheel Diameter
    17
  • Aspect Ratio
    12.5
  • Section Width (Cross Section)
    35
  • Overall Diameter
    35
  • Rim Width Range
    7.5-11.5
  • Rim Width

  • Weight
    74 :surprised:

Just checked on Nitto's site and this appears to not be correct;

I'm also following this thread and found this on the Nitto site. I guess the oem Rubicon wheels are 7.5, so this tire size is still not approved for the stock wheels, but it's closer! Anyone install the 315/70R17 Ridge grapplers?

Have you checked the trail grapplers. They have an 11.5” wide 315/70r17 which fits a 7.5” tire.

For what it’s worth I have been running stock Wrangler wheels on my Jeeps for the past 10 years (on multiple Wranglers) with 35x12.5 tires without issue. They perform great on the highway and on trails the smaller wheel acts as a poor mans beadlock and reduces the risk of breaking the bead with lower tire pressure. Actually the only time I have had an issue on trails is on a past Jeep where I had AEV wheels (with proper width) aired down to 15 psi and sliding off a rock I pulled the tire off the wheel and cracked the rim. Never had this happen with stock wheels.

I've been thinking about the Kendra Klevers in a 35x10.50x17 for the size. I like everything else about the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Good to hear about the 35x12.5 working out so well with the stock Rubicon wheels.

On the Rubicon with its 4:11 rear end ratio, is it pretty much always the case that you will loose some acceleration and mpgs? Is the mpg hit from the heavier tire offset by the change in the rear end ratio?
