I've used the front and rear hooks multiple times for kinetic rope recoveries. Even over a dune.
Just because it didn't fail doesn't mean it won't. Open hooks are inferior and less safe period. Better than nothing? Of course. Good enough...usually? Yep, until it isn't.

The Mopar takeoff bumpers regularly pop up for ~$200 around here. They definitely aren't worth the retail price, but they are a good bumper at takeoff price.

I went with a Mopar bumper because it was $100, and I don't like the angular look of most aftermarket bumpers, too close to angry grill for me.
Exactly. Can't handle the angular "made by a blacksmith" look of most aftermarket bumpers.

I've sort of thought about running pins through the hooks so a rope can't slip or fly off of them.

I'm always up to learn something. Got any links? Aside from Mopar and Mopar knock offs I literally can't find 1 with a separate winch plate? Granted most aftermarket companies don't use the misleading "winch ready" lie. It's either a winch bumper or it's not in my experience. Even metalcloak which sells a mislead bumper where you can add winch guards and end caps and all sorts of accessories the base is a winch bumper with integrated winch mount. https://metalcloak.com/jl-wrangler-frame-built-bumper-2500.html
Go to a big site like extremeterrain .com, etc and you’ll see countless like that. I could copy and paste links of examples for like an hr.

You could spend an hr on extreme terrain looking for 1. The entire 32 on the 1st page are integrated. There's a non-winch bumper on the 2nd page but that doesn't fit your description either unless you buy a winch plate and start cutting holes in your new bumper because you bought the wrong 1. Again even there I don't see any. You say countless, you say MOST don't. I've proven that incorrect and you still haven't shown 1 example that isn't mopar or 1 of the knock offs like mp concepts ? Not trying to argue it, I'd like to see if such a thing exists outside of the Mopar lie of "winch ready". It's crazy to me that so many people are so entrenched in that lie they think it's normal. It isn't period. If it's a winch bumper you shouldn't have to buy anything that doesn't come in the box with the winch to install it and use it.

LOD Signature series bumper require buying a winch plate, a very nice heavy one, I used on my plastic bumper. I have since put a Mopar Performance parts mid width bumper and it also needs a winch plate.
Guys you are arguing about something so small, your both right, and if not oh well, move on and let the OP get his answer.....Jack

According to their site it's included with the bumper. Yes they are one of the few that use a separate winch plate from the bumper, but they aren't selling you a winch bumper you can't mount a winch to. That is a Jeep thing and it's shady at best. People should stop defending the lie and trying to pretend it's normal. That's like selling you steel wheels and saying they're beadlock ready... after you weld on mounting rings, buy Beadlock rings, etc.

I’m perplexed as to what you're looking at. You must have manipulated the search results with filters, which would be easy to do when they offer literally hundreds of bumpers.

FYI. MP Concepts comes with a winch plate. I also wouldn’t call it a knock off because it’s made of out forged aluminum. I have that bumper. I didn’t care for their winch plate and bought a warn. It’s much more HD. Better designs and 1/4” steel vs 3/16” on the MP Concepts.

this is one of the dumber things to possibly argue about. I’m only responding because you said you proved me wrong. You didn’t. There are tons of aftermarket Jeep JL/JT bumpers that require a winch plate. Especially, if you want a more stock look. The only stock looking bumpers that I can think of that have an integrated winch mount. Some of the Warns and ARBs, but not all.

if you limit the search to 3/4 bumpers then there are a lot more, but I personally don’t care for the look.

So copying the Mopar bumper to the point the end caps bolt up doesn't make it a knockoff because they used aluminum for their knockoff? Even with that 1 example they INCLUDE a winch plate. Now I'm filtering searches that I posted and you can look at the link and see there are no filters or just go to extreme terrain and click on JL front bumpers and see the exact same thing I posted? The only other example anyone posted from lod also includes the plate. Only Jeep is selling you a winch bumper you can't install a winch on. You're only responding to tell me it's not true with the same 0 evidence you stated with. You said most winch bumpers aren't actually ready for a winch to be installed, obviously wrong, but I asked for 1 example and still nothing. It is a Jeep thing. Even the Amazon knockoffs of the Mopar design include the winch plate. I've literally tried searching and can't find 1 winch bumper you need extra parts to install a winch on. That was my original point. Yes there are some that are multi-piece but they include the plate.
